I don't know. I know that biologically I'm predisposed to all sorts of medical issues but I have no clue about mental issues. It would not surprise me one bit if the majority of my paternal side is in the very least manic depressive.
I think it does. My mom is currently on anti-depressants, my sister is most likely Bi-polar not that she will go see a doctor about it and I think (some day I'll go see a doctor)I've been dealing with depression since middle school.
I suspect as well as other HM professionals based on meeting and history, my mother and grandmother. It seems first born children on my mother side. My son as well and his is first born. This is going back at least 5 generations.
I think that I have broken the cycle in at least introducing therapy, medication - but not overly, trigger monitoring and journaling, etc. Using coping mechanism and stuff I learned as well as teaching my son and getting the different family, friend and professional supports needed.
Mental health is not really talked about on either side of the family. My uncle has alcohol problems but do not know if he has ever been diagnosed with a MH condition. Other then that I have no idea. My husband has ADHD and there are known mental health issues on his side of the family but my mom, dad or sister has, to my knowledge, never been dx with anything.
