HI I am 10 weeks pregnant and on 40 mg celexa< i talked to my doc yesterday and he said if I want to try to go off of it then that is fine because it is better for baby to not be on anything, but also i could try zoloft. My question here is have any of you gone off of it, should i go down 10 or 20 mg a day. I don t want to harm the baby in any way, And of course google is nt helping, alot of people say they had healthy babies and were on it, some say they had birth defects I wish i would have been off of it before baby so i wouldnt be so afraid. I took 20 mg today, but i just wasnt sure if that would hurt the baby

Hi. I have never taken celexa but I have taken medication when I was pregnant before. I wouldn't do it again though, but at the time my depression was really bad so I don't know if I could have made it through my pregnancy without it. I took zoloft and zyprexa with my son and he was premature and had a lot of health problems as a baby that I think were likely from the zoloft or zyprexa. If you can manage without meds, I think that is best but sometimes you just can't. Maybe you could see how you feel weaning off of it and if your depression gets worse just stay on it.

Just saw your post but my doc said Celexa is considered "safe" for pregnant women. I take it and she's not weaning me off it like I am my Lorazepam (Ativan). I am not TTC just yet as I'd like to be completely off my Lorazepam first but we're not preventing pregnancy either.

I take ativan now and I am pretty sure I took it when I was pregnant. I know I took it when I was breastfeeding. I just can't remember if I was taking it when I was pregnant.

From what I've heard, Ativan will be secreted in breastmilk. I may not be able to breast feed after baby because, more than likely, I'll be back on my meds full swing.

There was a lawsuit against the makers of Celexa when I was pregnant a little over a year ago because it has been linked to birth defects. I was told I needed to stop it immediately, but that Zoloft was okay towards the end only if absolutely necessary. It is NOT worth the risk! I was in very intense pain during my pregnancy but did I take my Vicodin? Absolutely NOT.
