Hello! I am new to this website, I do not have children yet but I love kids. I have depression and have often worried about the effect this would have on my children when I have them. It was so nice to find this message board and read about how many women are able to balance children and depression and to know I am not alone. Thankyou.
YES it is possible to balance depression with children and YES there is a chance your child(ren) can get depression as well but at these days 1 out of 5 Americans have some kind of depression-scary but true!
How do "I" do it?
1. Well, I am on anti-depressants meds to "help" me but
2. I also have support system that understands and offers some help when "needed". My support system currently is my parents and my SO and even my 3 yr old daughter! If they know what is going on or at least have an idea you have "depression", they will work with you.
3. I come here to JM and other support groups to get my mind off "things" . JM/this board is a great place to come for support and just to talk out you feelings because there will be someone out there to "listen".
I am glad you came over by and I hope this board can prepare you when it is time for you to have kids. And knowing you have depression and want to "treat" it is a good start!
