Okay since there were people who wanted to do it then lets make a list. I will see if I can get it stickied once we are done. Anyone have any suggestions of books to read. Any specific authors? Any specific ones you will not read?

I have a suggestion. I read it twice. It became a movie, though, but still a good read, if you ask me!

The Life of David Gale by: Dewey Gram

I was going to say Jodi Picoult. I have a book from her that I have not read yet. Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I am going to add that to the list.

What about other ones?

All of her books are good, but so far I think "A Change of Heart" would be the best for discussion. "My Sister's Keeper" is another great discussion book.

Ya, I have not read any, but I have heard so many good things about her that I picked up a book. I just get so busy with the kids that I do not read. That is going to change here due to the fact that as of the end of this week I am down to ONE class.

I read 4 books over the break!

The Weight of Silence THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE | THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE

The Lace Reader The Lace Reader - A Novel By Brunonia Barry

Fireproof Amazon.com: Fireproof (9781595547163): Eric Wilson, Alex Kendrick, Stephen Kendrick: Books

The Lovely Bones The Lovely Bones -- book review

I really enjoyed all of them. My kick before these was James Patterson and Terri Blackstock. Books | TerriBlackstock.com

Kristin Hannah's "Firefly Lane" is fantastic. I've read "Winter Garden" and am reading "True Colors" by her as well and those are good too.

I've read this book several times....there's 2 other books in the series, that I haven't read yet....but this is the first one and I think it's awesome Life as we Knew it by Susan Beth Pfeffer.

This is what it's about;

Quote:
It's almost the end of Miranda's sophomore year in high school, and her journal reflects the busy life of a typical teenager: conversations with friends, fights with mom, and fervent hopes for a driver's license. When Miranda first begins hearing the reports of a meteor on a collision course with the moon, it hardly seems worth a mention in her diary. But after the meteor hits, pushing the moon off its axis and causing worldwide earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes, all the things Miranda used to take for granted begin to disappear. Food and gas shortages, along with extreme weather changes, come to her small Pennsylvania town; and Miranda's voice is by turns petulant, angry, and finally resigned, as her family is forced to make tough choices while they consider their increasingly limited options. Yet even as suspicious neighbors stockpile food in anticipation of a looming winter without heat or electricity, Miranda knows that that her future is still hers to decide even if life as she knew it is over.

It's a good book. More then likely I probably like it because its based in a town about a hour from where I live, and because I can see something like that happening on earth too.

I have a couple suggestions.

The Book of Negroes (known as Someone Knows my Name in the US), by Lawrence Hill. It's an incredible book and well worth a look. I actually wrote a research paper on it.

My friend recommended anything by Ann Rule. She writes true crimes, and I just finished one of her books. They're definitely a little more on the dark side, just because they deal with real murders and rapes. But very good.
