Does your campus have dorms available for students? Have you seen the rooms? Are they nice? If you had a long drive to and from school (an hour and a half or more one way) would you ever consider living in the dorm during the week and coming home every weekend?
Ours does, which is nice since its a Junior/Community college. They were just built no more then 6 years ago (replacing some icky old ones) and the outside is nice. I've seen pictures on the schools site of the rooms and they look decent.
Our doorms are only for younger students basically, non families only.
When I go to law school, I will be staying in off-campus housing specifically for the university students during the week. My kids will be 16 and 19 (or older) by then, and won't want or need me home as much. I am going to get a one bedroom unit for myself so that DH can come and stay from time to time during the week. It's an hour and a half drive one way with no traffic. once you figure in traffic, you are looking at closer to 2 hours or more 1 way. (3 universities, 4 community colleges and 6 technical schools all within a 15 mile area and a population of almost 600,000 makes for some heavy traffic).
