I haven't been on JM in a long time, and a lot has changed since I was here last... biggest change is that I'm now married and have gone from a household of 3 to a household of 6!
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Emma, I live in New Zealand... I'm married to Lauriel... we have 4 kids between us. My daughters are Emersyn (almost 3) and Gabrielle (6 1/2), Lauriel has Eloise (9) and Aidan (5 1/2). We had a long distance relationship for a year, but in January the girls and i moved up here to live with Lauriel & her kids, and then in April we finally got married!
I began studying (again) in February - I've started about 4 times but always dropped out after the first semester, I think because I wasn't REALLY that interested in what I was doing & was just doing it for the sake of it... I am now doing a Bachelor of Communication, majoring in journalism studies, with a minor in expressive arts... And while this first year has a lot of papers that I have little interest in, next year I get to move on to the papers more specific to my interests. I can't wait. I would love a career in journalism - and I'm also an amateur writer & would love to go on to have a book (or 20) published...
I'm studying extramurally (ie online) & am finding it suits me a LOT better than actually going into campus for classes... I am a little snowed under right now with assignments due, and needing to study for exams - but I'm determined this time I will complete what I have started... in 2 1/2 years time, LOL.
I have been going to school on and off since 2004 and I'm finally finishing now. It wasn't until after I had my son that I decided on a degree of my liking, and I can honestly say I truly enjoy my major. (Criminal Justice). There were so many times that I started and dropped or stopped altogether so I know how that goes but the last three years I finally stuck at it and now I'm only two classes away which I'm currently taking during this summer. Its hard at times but just keeping going. Its worth it.
thanks I've started my BA about 3 times, because I felt as if to be 'successful' I needed to have a degree under my belt.... each time I decided to study something that I 'liked', rather than something I was passionate about, or could imagine having a career in...
After my Bachelors I'm going to have to do a post-grad qualification to actually become a qualified journalist, but I think it will all be worth it to be able to finally support my family in the way I want to. Sounds stupid, but I feel like I've already achieved a lot by making it to the end of my first semester (well, in a couple of weeks) and still being up to date.... normally after about 4 weeks I start falling behind
