I have a Nautilus, bought Sept 08 that doesn't expire until 14 or 15. My 6 y/o, 55 lbs is using it as a harness, and my 3 y/o 35 lb will get it when the 6 y/o outgrows it and goes into a booster (probably age 7). I noticed today that the plastic casing around the metal male clip on the right side is cracked/chipped. I doubt it'll last until the seat expires. Is the plastic casing cosmetic or functional? I believe it's only cosmetic, since the metal piece is what holds the fastener together. I have no idea how it could've broken, and I can't afford to replace it. I don't have the receipt, because it was a gift. WDYT?

Are you talking about the buckle for the crotch strap? (the one that buckles between their legs?) I would never use any car seat that is broke/chipped. You can call graco and order another part, or go online and order it as well

Yes, that's the buckle I'm talking about.

Do you mean they'll replace the whole seat or just the buckle? Do you think it's really necessary? (Yes, I'm going to call, but I'm wondering if the seat is dangerous between now and when this gets resolved.)

They'll replace the buckle, not the entire seat (that wouldn't be necessary). Yes, it's necessary to replace that buckle. I'd call them before using it again to see what they say about using it in the meantime.

Same exact thing happened to me. The plastic around the male tongue was broken and would slide up and down but I could still get the metal to click in. I called Graco and they sent me an entire new harness, clips and crotch strap.

Just called. They're closed for "the holiday" and have normal business hours "starting at 8 a.m." Monday thru Friday. Didn't say WHICH Mon thru Fri, though! Guess I'll call tomorrow and hope their holiday is over!

There's a replacement on the way (no idea how long it'll take). They told me to stop using it for now and use the booster until the harness comes in.

I received mine in 2 days so I'm sure it won't take long. Glad they are sending you a new one, weird how I had the same thing happen to ours.
