We have never had a car with LATCH, so I just did seatbelt installs and didn't really known what I was missing. Well, this past week I got a minivan, and it has LATCH...it is so amazing! We could get a good install on the Radian with the seatbelt, but it was a 2-person job that involved lots of sweating and a few 4-letter words. With LATCH we had it tight and secure in only minutes, and DH did it alone. We had all 3 seats installed quickly and securely in almost no time...what a huge difference!!
I have watched videos online and I'm pretty sure we have everything correct, but we have an appointment with a CPST this next week to check things over.
I have the cars with latch, but now we are close to dealing with weight limits, so I can't use LATCH much longer since my son is close to that weight. For the Frontier we did the seatbelt install as it works better with that seat. But for our extra car/extra seat (Maestro), I have to use LATCH because I can't get a decent install with the seatbelt.
But I know what you mean... I just wish you could use LATCH forever and there wasn't the 40 or 48 lb weight limit (depending on brand of car) with it :-(
I am so mad that my LATCH in the SUV is unusable (offset LATCH bars with weird things in between the seats so you can't get a good install no matter what you do). I *can* get really good installs using the seatbelts, but there are some seats where I really wish I had the option to use LATCH. SO much easier.
In my car LATCH is awesome, saves me struggling, sweating, and swearing with/at the seat belt. In my mom's car(same car newer year model) LATCH sucks and the seat belt save me struggling, sweating, and swearing. As for having to use 2 people to install a seat only when I'm using a non-locking seat belt and I have to put on the locking clip.
