I know this is not a one answer fits all kind of question. and All car seats have to meet high safety standards..BUT....

If money, vehicle, space etc were non issues, what would be the ideal, #1 car seat for safety and ease of use be? (bucket or reversible... -extended rear facing capabilities a bonus)

As you know, There is no "SAFEST". Safety wise, they've all met and passed the same testing standards. We do not know what just passed, or what passed with flying colors. With that being said, I think you're looking for something that will give you the most bang for your buck. Check out the new Graco Size4Me 70. Check out this little review:

There are so many variables too. For example, Radians IMO are great seats, but they dont install well in some vehicles. So its no longer the best choice. There is no one seat that will work for every child - gotta decide whats important to you in your situation.

We've been using the Britax Advocate 70 CS Convertible car seat for our little one, and we love it. It's a bit pricey, but worth it if you can afford it. It was easy to install and being convertible, it switches from rear to forward facing, so we've been using it since our daughter was born (she's three and using it in the forward-facing position now). It has side "air bags" to cushion impact, and a click-n-safe feature so you know when you've strapped baby in right. I really can't recommend it enough; my husband and I feel totally safe with our daughter in this seat. Check out this review: Britax Advocate 70 CS Convertible Car Seat.
