My husband was rear ended this evening. My kids weren't in the car but the car seats were. Does anyone know the policy through getting the car seats replaced? Does there have to be a certain amount of damage to have them replaced?

I have a Britax Frontier and a Graco Backless booster

Contact your car seat manufacturer or check your user manual to find out exactly. With Graco I'm fairly certain you need to replace after any crash or collision.

Your insurance provider should cover the cost of replacement, so talk to them asap to find out what info they need to reimburse you. If you find they are resistant to this idea, show them where the car seat company says you need to replace the seats, and have them put it in writing that they won't do it. It's more than likely that you'll get them to cover it!

Graco says to replace after any accident whether or not the seat was occupied.

Britax follows NHTSA guidelines. Here is the link. If you can say YES to all 5 statements, it does not need to be replaced. An injury can be as little as soreness, so if he feels any discomfort, that is an injury, you do NOT fall under these guidelines, and the Frontier must be replaced.

If your insurance company (or the at-fault person's insurance company) gives you a problem, you can get a written letter from each manufacturer saying it's no longer safe to use your car seat. Until you get them replaced, your kids cannot ride in them again. Hope everything turns out okay!
