Please keep my friend's daughter and her family in your thoughts and prayers. My friend's LO is 8 mos. old and was born with spina bifida. Luckily she has a mild case and may eventually be able to walk. A little over a week ago she started throwing everything up. The drs. thought it was a UTI that was not cleared yet. She was told to wait and see. Through out the week she has been told so many things. Her gut told her it had to be something else, but the drs. were all over the place with yes no maybe a UTI then it was a drug resistant UTI. Today her urine was magically clear leading them to believe now it was something wrong with her shunt. The did a cat scan and she may have an infection in her brain from the shunt. She is being admitted and has to have EMERGENCY BRAIN SURGERY. Please keep them in your prayers.
UPDATE:
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
I just spoke with my friend. Her LO made it through surgery just fine. She does not have an infection thank goodness. The shunt was repaired because it had a defective part that was causing a blockage. She is on the mend now, but still is not holding down solids. She should be coming home on Thursday. Again thank you for your positive thoughts.
Update 5/13:
My friend just called they are back in the ER. She spiked a fever, vomited, and is bleeding at the incision sight. Hopefully this is a small bump in the road and all will be well soon.
