At this rate, Hannah will be in diapers forever! She has ZERO interest in using the potty. I am at a total loss here. Any suggestions? She cries the instant I mention using the potty. I really don't know what to do...

You could do what I did... I made a chart counting down days until the diaper fairy came to take away her daytime diapers. (we counted 3 days and she put a sticker on the chart and we talked about what would happen on the last day...the fairy would come & take her diapers which are for babies, not big girls who are 3 or turning 3). I went straight to training underwear (not pull-ups...tried them for 2 days and decided they are no different than diapers) and gave rewards for pee pee & poo poo on potty. One M&M for pee pee and poo poo gets a present (stocked up at the dollar store!). We are still doing rewards. The first 4 days were MISERABLE!!! Tons of pee pee accidents and hours "trying" on the potty. After each accident, I'd have her sit on potty & explain that pee pee goes there, not in undies. We only ever had one poo accident and now it's been almost 7 weeks since we started. She has had a few pee accidents lately & I realized that it was because I wasn't having her get her night diaper off first thing in the am & when we would finally put undies on, she forgot she wasnt in the night diaper...now it's been almost 10 days & no accidents.

I am the mom who has a pink potty in her mini van for when we go out (she won't go on public big potties yet) BUT...I feel it's big progress. Last week, she initiated potty several times...she will run down the hall & call out..."Mommy, I made pee pee come & see!" she's gotten really good at getting her pants down & undies down...back up is a bit more challenging, but we are working on it. For the first few weeks, I was pulling her pants down, etc.

In the beginning it is rough & I almost gave up & went back to diapers...but I am so glad I didn't. The trick is for YOU to be ready for the challenge with a stubborn little miss...mamas can be just as or more stubborn and once they realize it, it's almost like they "knew" all along and were just tricking us into diapers

Two things...sticker charts and bribery. Preston might be the most stubborn kid on this earth, but we figured out that he likes "presents" so he fills up his chart with stickers and he gets a present. We started out giving him a present each time he went to the potty to get the ball rolling.

Is there something she really wants to do like got to Chuck E Cheese, ballet class or something else only "big kids" can do? I'd be like...ohh...look at Sierra in her ballet outfit...she's a big girl and can do ballet because she uses the potty and doesn't wear diapers anymore. Zachary wanted to play on the "big kid" side at the gym that had the slide, but no diapers allowed, so we made a big deal about that.
Other than that, my only other suggestion is to not ask her...just do it because if you ask more than likely she's going to say no. I was always like, okay, time to go potty, time to sit on the potty...he didn't have a choice LOL. I got a lot less resistance then constantly asking if he had to go potty.

We did the pretty much as Susan described for Hazel. There were a few differences. He's been using a ducka seat on the toilet rather than a potty and he was using it off and one for months. Then we started talking about when he turns 3, the daytime diapers go away. The nice thing about that is that it almost makes it their decision. He woke up on his 3rd birthday and said, "I'm 3. No more diapers." We'd planned to let him wear a diaper that day and start the next day...but once he said that we jumped on it. He hasn't worn a diaper during the day since.

One of the things we did is practice using the toilet while he was still in diapers. So he got semi used to the routine before we switched to underwear. I also let him pick out his underwear (star wars and batman). He was super excited about the underwear.

He's only been out of diapers for a bit less than 2 weeks, so we still have accidents, but not nearly as many as you'd expect. And it only took about 4 days before he started refusing our help taking his pants down. LOL

It's hard at first. We've made Alex sit on the potty for 1/2 an hour or longer when we first started. Definitely use treats and bribery. And don't ask if she wants to go potty. You have to tell her it's time to go potty now. We first started off in underwear and he was doing great, until we moved in with my sister last year. But when we moved in to our new house again we started back in underwear and he's been doing wonderful. To get him to poop in the potty we had to literally make him sit on the potty for 3-4 hours one Saturday. He cried a lot, but we didn't let him out of the bathroom. He never went poop that day,but the next day he went poop in the potty and has been ever since. It's a lot of work and little kid arguing and crying, but you have to be ready for it and want it done for it to work. Stick to your guns. Also, at first we made him sit on the potty every 15-20 minutes the whole day. And mak a huge deal about it when they go.

Chill. Nobody goes to diapers in college. That's my advice. Take a month or two off and then try again. Seriously, there is no time limit but the one we set on ourselves...well and you know Kindergarten, or Preschool, but Preschool can always be delayed, Courtney started mid year the year she was 3 cuz in August she wasn't potty trained, Rock started a month late, same reason.

Ana would not sit on the plastic potty so she went straight to the big toilet. I set the oven timer for every 5 minutes at first, then 10 and after 3 days (of peeing anywhere and everywhere) she would go by herself when the bell rang. She got an M&M for each succesful attempt (at first for just sitting on the toilet).

We started in May and by the end of June she was reliable enough to go to England without nappies. She even used the toilet on the plane!

I have to agree with Christan on this. Jake is the oldest one in our group and he still isn't potty trained. Don't stress yourself or Hannah on trying. Give it a few weeks and try again. Jake is stubborn and will only do what he wants to do and bribery doesn't work for him. He would rather not get the present then give in to what I want him to do.

Maybe she is holding out because Mickenzie is still in diapers? Maybe wait and try training them both at the same time? If Mickenzie gets it first, it might push Hannah into doing it too?

Don't worry Katie! You won't be the only mama of a college student still in diapers! I will be there with you!

The sticker chart worked great for us. Also we got Jamie a duckie potty seat and we have to take it everywhere with us but she is almost completely daytime trained.

Haha, they will have to go to the same college! We can take turns shipping diapers And Hannah is super stubborn too.

I did start talking to her today about the diaper fairy coming on Monday and that she is going to take her diapers and leave some really cool undies. She is excited, but I don't think it has really hit her yet with what that fully entails. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. If we fail miserably, we'll try again in a few weeks.

One thing I remember us doing at first was having Preston sit on the potty and reading him books. We did that for a long time until we actually caught him peeing and then we made a really big deal about it. Then we started with the stickers and whatnot. There was a lot of accidents on the floor for a long time, but eventually he figured it out. We are still working on the not peeing when we go places part of it because he seems afraid of public restrooms! It's definitely a learning process for all involved! Hope some of these suggestions work for you! They have an elmo dvd about going potty and books you can buy too. I think the biggest thing that helped with Preston was telling him that if he used the potty like a big boy he could go to school like my friends kids who he says are his best friends!

Amber is ready to potty train, if I start her, she may beat LJ to poop training cuz that's the first thing she says to me "I'm pooping Mommy."

Justin still isnt potty trained. I am trying my hardest. He only wants to wear underwear but not use the potty. He knows big boys go potty in the toilet.

He can not move to the 3 yr old room at daycare until he is potty trained and i think he is fianlly realizing that his friend is about to turn three and she will be moving.

Today he started crying at daycare because sammie told him that only babies use diapers and pull ups and big kids go on the toilet and can go on field trips so I hope hope hope that works.

I feel at a loss on what to do.

I agree with Susan, thats what I did. But if she's not ready, she won't do it. I tried in December and RJ was NOT ready and made that very clear. I layed off the trying and just talked about it occasionally and then I started in February when I had 5 straight days off and we went nowhere lol. It got him into it and he has been potty trained for a couple months! We still struggle with pooping on the potty ( he wont do it.. he asks for a pullup) and he wears pullups at night.
