I am thinking of going to school and wanted to get some feedback. Did you go to LVN or RN school? What were your reasons? I know there are pros and cons to both. Did you have kids at home when you were in school? How hard was it. I am really nervous about it but I think I would like it once out of school. I suck at math and will have to take a dev math class if I choose the RN route. I dont think I would have to take one for LVN. I have already dropped a dev math class. Algebra. I just dont get Algebra. It sucks so I really dont want to take it at all.

I have a 3yr old and a 6yr old. I am thinking about trying to go when my youngest gets in pre school or Kindergarten.

Any advice?

Hi, I'm Marie. I took my RN degree one year out of high school, so no kids then. I have friends who are LVN's (LPNs here), they do a couple fewer skills here, but are also paid about $20 less an hour than an RN. I would say do your RN right from the start, you won't regret it. I've worked many different areas of nursing, and there are many more I'd like to try before I retire The travel opportunities are endless, and the pay is very good here, anyhow. There is such a shortage, nurses here have no issues at all getting jobs anywhere.

So what is school like? I hear nightmare stories about school and then get nervous about going. I have heard that the LVN program is more intense and that the RN program is more manageable but who knows. I am sure there both pretty hard. Did you have to take any math? I am suppose to take a dev alegebra class and I really suck at it. I had to drop the last time I was in it because I just couldnt understand it and was spending 3hours a day on just that class. It was a class that doesnt even count but they made me take it because of TSI requirements. I think that is a Texas thing though. Ugggghhh

I would love to work in Labor and Delivery or mother/baby units. Even for an OB Dr would be great. Its it hard to get daytime hours as a nurse? I want to be able to spend time with my kids so I would look for a 3 day a week job or something. Unless it was just a M-F 8-5 type thing. I would love to do it I am just afraid I will never get through that darn Algebra class and they wont let me take my pre regs unless I am taking that class along with them.

Thanks
