I live in Ga...when there is even the littlest bit of snow or ice it seems like everything shuts down! People panic and start buying bread, milk, and bottled water if there is even the suggestion of snow...ha ha. I am from North Dakota so all I can do is laugh.
There are always so many accidents when it's snowing/icing during rush hour. I wish more businesses would close or have delayed openings when that happens. There are many businesses that have to be open, so if the ones that can afford to have their employees miss an hour or two, they should be required to stay home so that the roads are emptier and safer for those who have to travel them.
I don't know what my snow day policy is. I sometimes work at schools, so I go by their decision.
Does your place of work ever close due to the weather? No, but I work in a hospital.
Are they generous if you are late or need to leave early for safety reasons? They are if you are late. No one has ever asked to leave early b/c of the weather. Last year we got pounded by a snow storm and the people there working were stuck...and they ended up just working to cover peoples shifts that couldn't make it in and sleeping in empty rooms.
