It's my primary forum of communication for work. I check my personal email every hour or so. Work volume varies from 30 on a slow day to close to 100 or more on a busy day. personal is usually capped at facebook feeds, but real messages maybe 10 or so a day.

There are days when I'm at my desk all day, and much of my work is internet based, so I have a browser open the whole time. My work email is through gmail, and new messages pop up automatically. You can say I am constantly checking email!
I get dozens a day. Mostly from people in the office. You can say we're "too lazy" to talk in person, but I justify it a couple ways. First, a lot of conversations are between multiple people, so it's silly to call a meeting or conference call with all of them for just a small issue. Also, it saves a lot of time not having to walk down to someone's office. We're pretty spread apart here.
I get some work emails on my personal account, also through gmail, so I have that up all day too.
