With are dealing with male factor, low count and low motility. Our RE said IVF with ICSI was our best shot but told us we could try 3 IUIs first. Well I am coming to the end of my second IUI and I think its gonna be a BFN. Would you all just go ahead and go to IVF or try the IUI again?

I dont wanna keep wasting time but I dont want to jump the gun either so I dont know what would be the best choice. My RE tells me to do what I am comfortable doing. My husband tells me it is my choice. So, I need some opinions here.

TTC for over 1 year, 2 injectable cycles with timed intercourse, 1 IUI with Clomid and 1 IUI with Clomid, Bravelle and Ovidrel. Sperm counts for IUI #1 were 19 million total motile and for IUI #2 were 9 million total motile.

TIA ladies!!

Honestly I would probably go ahead and do the last IUI. Id figure giving it one more chance cant hurt and it costs ALOT less....that is my opinion though. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

I would opt for the IVF now. IUI's have a very low success rate and that is with people with a normal sperm count and motility. I think if you go for the IUI, you will just cause yourself another month of what-ifs and heartache. I never had the option of trying IUI because my tubes were destroyed completely, so by the time I went to the RE I went straight to IVF (after surgery of course).

Honestly with your doctor telling you that IVF with ICSI was your best option, but that you could try IUI sounds like he was trying to make you feel better about the situation. The normal regimen for a couple who indicates IUI is 6 IUI's before IVF is even brought up. We did IVF with ICSI and while we didn't have any male factor problems, it was awesome. I have seen a TON of gals though who had male factor and when they did IVF with ICSI they got pregnant on the first try!

Good Luck!!

I'd say try the IUI again if you need to do so. Your DH's total motile sperm counts for your IUIs are higher than my DH's sperm counts for our 2 IUIs. My DH had a total of 5.6 million motile sperm for our first IUI and 5.8 million total motile sperm for our 2nd IUI and the 2nd one worked and we now have DS. So if it helps, your numbers were better than mine and it did work for us - despite our RE telling us we should move right to IVF with ICSI.

Good luck!

PS - I didn't feel pregnant after the second IUI cycle either and was stunned when we got a BFP so hang in there.

I also found this on the internet and thought it might help:

Q: What is the success rate for IUI?

A: Searching through about a dozen medical journal articles and a number of web sites resulted in a rather wide range of statistics. Basically the odds of success are reported to be just under 6 percent and as high as 26 percent per cycle. The low statistics are with one follicle, while multiple follicles resulted in as high 26 percent success. Another influencing factor is sperm count. Higher sperm counts increase the odds of success; however, there was little difference between success with good-average counts and those with high counts. The overall success rate seems to be between 15-20 percent per cycle, judging from the articles which will be abstracted below. The rate of multiple gestation pregnancies is 23-30 percent.

In my opinion I would move straight to IVF. We did two IUI's with no luck. Our first round of IVF worked! Plus, we have 6 eggs frozen for next time. I know it's a huge expense but totally worth it! Especially with your male factor issues, if they do ICSI that's probably your best shot! Good luck with your decision I know it's a hard one!

We are TTC with MFI and went straight to IVF, our RE said it was our best option. We also had ICSI done as well and were able to have two embies transfered last week

Based on my age (35), I'd move straight to IVF with ICSI--a lot more money, but then I know I've got the best chance. Hopefully you won't need to make that choice this month! Good luck!!!

I am in the same boat. My RE said she would do one more IUI "if I wanted" but would recommend IVF. I am trying to figure out what to do as well (which totally sucks, so I feel your pain!!!).

I think it is a personal decision and one that you have to look at the pros and cons for your situation. Either way, I am sure you will make the right decision for you guys.

Good luck!!!!

IVF is such a big step physically and financially so its one that you really want to be prepared for. Having said that I am an impatiant person and couldn't have waited through all the IUI's if I knew that I would probably end up going the IVF route anyway. I ended up skipping the IUI route intirely because I didn't want to waste time if my odds were so bad.

Good luck.
