I am on my second IUI cycle and have 2 questions I thought some of you ladies could answer. I have researched it a bit online but feel like I am not getting any good answers.

What is the best timing for IUI in regards to ovulation? Is it better for the sperm to wait for the egg or for them to meet the egg just after ovulation, and how long before or after O are those IUI sperm good for?

Does anyone else get more pain after O then during or before? I once read something about the corpus luteum cyst filling with water or something like that. Maybe I was drunk and imagined I read that

Well, our IUI worked the first time out the gate and here's what we did. I used the OPK and the morning it was a strong positive, I called the doctor and went in the following morning (24 hours later). I personally think the sooner you get the swimmers in there the better b/c some women ovulate very fast, but even if not for 2 days later or so, the swimmer can still fertilize the eggie =)

As for the pain, I got pain during the O. But if you feel that you are O'ing later than either the OPKs or your charting are predicting, always go with your bodily instinct. Listen to yourself and your body little mama!

Good luck sweetie!!!!

Well keep in mind that washed sperm only live for 12-24 hours and the egg lives for 12-24 hours also. So you want to have the timing pretty close. An IUI too early, could be a total waste of money.

My first IUI was way off with timing. I got a positive OPK, went in 2 days later and still did not ovulate for 2 days after that. All the sperm were already dead by the time my egg was released.

This last IUI we did IUI about 10 hours after O and still no pregnancy. So who knows.....
This IUI we are going to try to get it done right about O time.

I'm wondering about the whole timing with Oing and IUI's too. I didn't know that washed sperm had shorter life spans. I just had 2 IUI's done on Sunday and Monday. We were doing cycle monitoring so I was going into the clinic every morning before work to have an ultrasound and blood work done to see how my follicles and lining were developing so I really hope they got the timing right! I've never used an OPK so I don't know how accurate they are at predicting O.

Here's what we did...
Saturday 9am - trigger shot (was told I would O in 36 hours)
Sunday 9am - 1st IUI
(dr confirmed I ovulated on Sunday somewhere between 4-9pm most likely)
Monday 9am - 2nd IUI
I think my dr was aiming for IUI's 12hours before and 12hours after O to be safe. here's hoping!

I was also worried that I was getting my IUI too early....I took my HCG shot at 9 PM Monday, had my IUI 12 hours later at 8:30 AM Tuesday, BD on Tuesday night, and I believe that I O'd on Wednesday morning because I had intense cramps and pains that lasted for hours. I was very worried that I didn't have my IUI and I didn't BD on Wednesday because Wednesday is when I O'd, but I did get pregnant
