I'm out this month. I started spotting at work today. I always spot for a few days before AF shows. And I've had two BFNs. So we will be doing IUI later this month as planned. I had really hoped not to need it, since it is SO much work. Injections are easy foe me (I'm diabetic) but all of those blood tests and doctor's visits, yuck. We will have to skip our planned vacation, because of all the blood tests and ultrasounds. I am REALLY disappointed by that. And my mom is not helping, she's super worried I'll get OHSS like she did. DH isn't helping, he wants solid answers about why we haven't gotten pregnant since losing Ethan, and there's really no clear answer to that, since I'm ovulating and everything.

I have a few questions for the IUI with injectibles crowd:

1. How common is OHSS?
2. What are the common side effects of the medications?
3. With the meds make me b*tchy or depressed?
4. Overall what is the success rate (when I ggogle that question, i get the rates for specific clinics, not overall).
5. How do you handle the multiples issue? We're fine with twins and maybe even triplets (I have twin brothers thanks to IUI) but we don't want to end up like the Gosselins or Octomom.

I have a few questions for the IUI with injectibles crowd:

1. How common is OHSS? It is more common in woman get IVF because they are trying to get more eggs.. For IUI they want no more then 4 some offices only want 3 they watch your e2 which is your estrodial to make sure it is not getting to high that's a warning that you can end up getting ohss

2. What are the common side effects of the medications? On follistim when my eggs were mature I got a little queasy

3. With the meds make me b*tchy or depressed? Follistim had no reaction on me in that sense clomid made me a little b*tchy!

4. Overall what is the success rate (when I ggogle that question, i get the rates for specific clinics, not overall). I think every doctors office will give you a different answer i dont think there is an over all answer

5. How do you handle the multiples issue? We're fine with twins and maybe even triplets (I have twin brothers thanks to IUI) but we don't want to end up like the Gosselins or Octomom. You are monitored closely they will not allow you to have more then 3 to 4 my office wont even let you have 3 they ask you to reduce.. Not that I would of but I agreed to it so they didnt cancel the cycle LOL

So sorry to hear this. I bet medicine has changed since your mom was going through it, and the monitoring and so forth may be much more stringent leading to lesser chances of OHSS.

I can empathize with your DH's desire to know WHY. I am a WHY seeker myself and have to find solace in the fact that we may never know WHY but we can keep trying to get a result nonetheless!

FX that this first IUI with injects is your LAST IUI (followed by a beautiful BFP and healthy pregnancy of course!)

I don't know the answers to your questions yet, but I might after my consult on Wednesday. I hope you and your doc can come up with a plan that you can feel excited about!!

Here are my answers, for what they're worth:

1. How common is OHSS? this i don't know, but i don't believe it's common at all. and you'll be monitored very closely.

2. What are the common side effects of the medications? i know this varies but for me it was bloating, cramps, some headaches. i had upset stomachs but my friend did not. do you know what med you'll be on?

3. With the meds make me b*tchy or depressed? i was a little ******, but less then i thought. i actually felt a bit BETTER because my hormones were so out of wack prior to the shots.

4. Overall what is the success rate (when I ggogle that question, i get the rates for specific clinics, not overall). i don't know. my doc seems to think that with a 20% chance trying naturally, we almost double that with the injects and IUI. but that's a guestamate.

5. How do you handle the multiples issue? We're fine with twins and maybe even triplets (I have twin brothers thanks to IUI) but we don't want to end up like the Gosselins or Octomom. my doctor is VERY CONSERVATIVE. i go in pretty much daily for at least blood and sometimes ultrasound. if there are what he considers "too many" eggs he will cancel the cycle OR depending on the amount discuss your feelings on reduction. if you are anti-reducing once you are pregnant you will probably cancel. i would assume most doctors are the same. but just keep up to date on your follies as you go and ask questions.
