I spend most of my time on the TTC with PCOS board but thought I would post this question here. I just finished my 3rd cycle on clomid with not very good results. Therefore, my doctor wants to move on to injections. I have an appointment with him tomorrow to discuss.

What questions should I ask? Also, what do you know about moving to IVF in the middle of the cycle if there are too many follicles?

Thanks in advance!

You know, I'm not sure what questions to ask, even though I've done injections. I guess I would ask this:

1. How will you determine the appropriate dosing for me?
2. What issues that can arise will result in a cancelled cycle?
3. How many follicles is too many?
4. How do you handle OHSS?

I did IUI with injectibles last August, and I am 4 months pregnant as a result Honestly, I think it was the injections that did it for us. The injections were pretty easy to master and self-administer, but I will warn you that the side effects suck. And I got pretty severe OHSS, I nearly ended up in the hospital. But it was all worth it, because I'm pregnant! My RE was pretty aggressive at my instruction, in retrospect I would have had him tone it down a bit, but I'm happy with the results all the same!

Please feel free to PM if you have any questions.

I'm in the 2WW after my first injectibles cycle. I did Follistim (previously 3 cycles of Clomid + trigger + IUI) and I had a good response to it. I had 1 mature egg and 3 lagging behind that may or may not have matured in time. I triggered 36 hrs after my last follie check. Still waiting to see if it worked...

I am not sure what questions you should ask, although the IVF conversion is a good one! My friend started out doing an injectible IUI cycle and overstimmed and converted to IVF per the RE's suggestion.

Good luck! And keep us posted!

I've done 1 injects cycle and had 4 mature follies, 2 laggers and a few little ones from it. It didn't work, but we had some timing and RE issues and I fully believe we were a day late in triggering and IUI. I didn't have many side effects, but each gal is different.

As far as what to ask, I think Rebecca asked the good questions, since you already know your RE, these are the injects specific questions.

Good luck with it all! ... Oh... I am not sure about converting mid cycle, but I do know it could save a bunch of $ if you tend to over-stim! So, you'd have to ask your RE if they do IVF's at any time. Some only do them certain months, some "batch" their patients so everyone's at about the same rate and so forth. You want to make sure if that happens, you don't have any problems with scheduling the facilities and so forth.

Yeah, what Gwynne said about saving money if you overstim.

I didn't ask the specifics, but I know my friend who overstimmed and converted to IVF was offered that option at (her words) a "drastically reduced cost."

I want to overstim!

Thanks everyone!

I talked with my RE today and didn't learn much more because I'm taking December off and starting in January (a little disappointed with the discussion, I was hoping for more information). He said we will discuss specifics then. He seems to be very flexible...so I'm sure that converting to IVF in the middle of the process is an option.

I'll keep you updated...thanks again!!!!
