I have my yearly pap coming up and I always get a bit nervous because my grandmother passed from ovarian and uterine cancer.

Tonight I was googling and came across this article.

Ovulation Induction and Cancer

It says there havent been enough studies done to prove a link but that in theory it can cause ovarian cancer. 1. reason because they say going on birth control and stopping your ovaries from functioning helps lower your risks from getting the cancer so the opposite would be true that if you use super ovulation you are increasing your chances at getting the cancer. even using clomid or femara would in theory be as damaging as follistim/gonal f ect.

i wonder if there are so few studies because its such a money making business and they dont want to damage it

Are any of you personally worried about this? I am but mostly because its already in my family so there is a risk in just that....and now i've done 3 IVF cycles.

I actually asked my RE about this a while back from when i was researching.. He said that woman who use these drugs and never get pregnant do stand a chance..

its kinda like smoking causes lung cancer.. But not everyone who gets lung cancer smoked.. I agree that RE is a money pit but tons of woman suffer it and im sure a bunch have gotten it and it may not even be related to the drugs

I am sure and pray it all comes back fine for you kup!!!

I am concerned, but I didn't feel there was enough evidence or information to keep me from going ahead with the fertility treatments. I definitely hope they do more studies soon so women can make more informed decisions!

I talked to my OB about this a while back. He basically said that I haven't taken fertility drugs long enough to be concerned about it. He also said that you are 3 times less likely to get it if you take bcp. He said that if I am worried about it later down the line, that I could take bcp.

Another friend of mine who was concerned about this goes to have her pap smear twice a year, rather than once.

I am sorry, Christin, I can see how you would be concerned. Will your insurance cover more than 1 well woman exam per calendar year? I would think that due to your family history they would?

this is why we will not be doing anymore fertility treatments, that and I have four kids, lol! Seriously, we were very scared of me going thru another IVF cycle b/c of this theoretical risk

Honestly I'm not really worried about it either. My grandmother had ovarian cancer and I have endometriosis and PCOS so my chances are already up there anyway.
