I've been thinking about this for a long time and not sure if/how I will do it. I was so incredibly stressed out about the cost of MA. I was so blessed to find a job that pays for it, so now I feel compelled to help others not so fortunate.

I was thinking of starting an infertility scholarship program where JM ladies (and anyone else interested) could put money in an account and accept "applications" from couples interested in applying for the money. We could have a scholarship committee who selects a "winner."

Is this totally unrealistic? I've seen how generous JM ladies are and I was just thinking if we could get 100 people to donate 20 or $25 we would have a nice little pot. I wonder what Patty would think of this?

Please chime in with your thoughts!

I love the idea too. Our fertility clinic actually runs a registered charity to help those who are unable to pay for MA. It's not fair that some people can't start a family because of money.

Yay! I'm so glad you all are interested! I have never done anything like this, so it will be pretty basic. I'm thinking that we could accept "essays" of sorts from couples applying for the scholarship. I'll ask 3 or 4 of you to help select the winner. If our first round goes well, we could do it once every year!

If any of you know Patty, would you mind asking her to share her thoughts on this idea?

Lindsey... I think this is such an awesome idea and I'm totally on board!

I will bring up the idea to Patty and see what she has to say. Not sure how it all works legally.... we'll have to see what she comes up with.

Well ladies, I talked with Patty and unfortunately it won't work on the boards. It's all tied up in legal stuff....

"I just talked to my community manager about this just to double check. We really can't do anything like this because of legal issues. I know that there are places out there that give scholarships and grants to infertile couples so if they wanted to help someone they could give to a charity that they liked and trusted but I couldn't give any input on that really as I don't want to suggest or endorse anything due to potential legal issues. I like what they want to do but as far as this being done through JM or on the forum, we really can't allow that. Sorry."

I'm sorry ladies, I wish it were different but I know that they have to be careful not to put JM at risk. This place is too important to too many people to risk it.

Well durn! I completely understand though, I would NEVER want to do anything to jeopardize our wonderful haven. Maybe we could start a thread sharing our favorite infertility charities. Or maybe, once I get settled down, I'll start my own charity!!
