I think this is going to be our next step. I cant even begin to explain how drained I am of this whole process (FYI-My temp dropped a whole lot today so its over...). I am a prime candidate for the Mini_IVF as I am young and respond very well to just Clomid. (They like to see a few good eggs with this protocol, but i've had as many as 6 on Clomid). DH and I are to the point where we just want to get as aggresive as possible and get this TTC part over with, I cant handle much more. I want to do this RIGHT NOW, im ready I dont care what I have to go through to get pregnant I just want it now. Mini-IVF is about 1/2 the cost as regular IVF, and they use the "vitrification" freezing process with it and i've read that it is a very safe effective way to freeze embryos with little to no risk of loss, so I would probably feel more confident in frozen cycles as well. (If, god forbid, the first cycle didnt work).

The only thing that kind of sucks is I would have to change Dr's...my current RE doesnt do Mini-IVF cycles. But im familiar with this RE who does do them as I called and got a whole book full of information about them earlier in the year when I was trying to find a new RE and I read up alot about him and he is a very widely respected RE, but he doesnt do IUI's so we didnt go with him back then because we werent ready for IVF. (Heres his site and a little more about Mini-IVF IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) explained by World-Leading Fertility Specialist Dr. Sherman Silber of the Infertility Center of St. Louis. )

Does anyone know of anyone on JM who has done this?

So Jason and I are going to talk tonight about the money part tonight. Then i'll update you guys on where we go from here... Im excited, but extremely EXTREMELY nervous and sad that its come to this. Also nervous of this not working and us realizing we are going to be childless.

Honestly I hadn't heard of a mini-IVF so I read your link. Sounds interesting! If it saves a ton of $$ and because you respond so well to Clomid, etc., sounds like it may be a great choice!!

Good luck with your talk with Jason-- can't wait to hear how it goes and hopefully things will fall into place!!!

I am always praying for your sticky bean!

IVF#1 (March 2010) Transferred two 8-cell grade A (perfect) embies- BFN and heartbroken.

IVF#2/FET#1 (Jan/Feb 2011):Transferred two (7&8 cell) grade A (PERFECT) embies- BFN again.
March 2011- February 2012: On BCP due to endometriosis.

March 2012- taking a few months off of BCP and we are TTC naturally.

we actually had a consult set up with Silber to talk about mini ivf but we got pregnant a few weeks before the consult and canceled..then I lost the baby..and we decided to go with a full ivf cycle after that.

SIRM offers it as well.

when we were talkign about mini ivf he told us it was going to cost around 8k which is what we ended up paying for a full cycle with our RE.

our ins covered the monitoring and drugs at our RE which is why it cost us a little less.

Whoa! Really? Do you know what the protocol was? I spoke with someone over the phone a little while ago and they told me around $4800-6000!? I wonder why the price difference? Did you need more meds for any reason?

I just saw this, I had no idea they offered it too. And im so glad you told me this because I went on their site and they use injectibles with their Mini-IVF (they call it Micro IVF) instead of Clomid (what Silber uses)...obviously injectibles are more effective and their price is still only $4490!? Thats crazy to me. Im gonna have to call them.

all i was going to take was clomid...i thought it was pretty pricey myself...but this was 4yrs ago...when it was brand new so thats probably why they charged so much.

they told me i'd take clomid get 1-3 follicles, then i'd take a nose spray to induce ovulation..they would go in retrieve the eggs..then they would ICSI them..freeze them with vitrification and then next month during when i would naturally ovulate they would transfer the embryos.

Yeah I thought SIRM would be cheaper than Silber...to me silber is really good with male infertility and is great with TESE and all that .but just from talking to other women who saw him..he's not so good with the female side..he's very cookie cutter...one protocol for everyone.

I'm so glad you get an option to do this... KUP

I don't have any personal experience with this. We talked about doing an IUI to IVF conversion if I overstimulated one more time, but even that cycle got canceled.

I am so excited that this is an option for you guys, and I'm going to continue praying that whatever you guys decide to do... that you have a VERY STICKY bean to celebrate about very soon!!!

I've never heard of mini-IVF either. It's definitely worth it if this is what will work for you. Please KUP on your research and decision.

I have heard of mini ivf.. I actually looked into it when I was with ex DH but some people on JM told me the price is same as full IVF and I looked into it.. it was much cheaper to do full IVF cycle.

Actually since you live near Indiana, you could check out Family Beginnings - infertility diagnosis and treatment, IVF, Indianapolis, Indiana, reproductive health
I know few JM members went there and used the clinic. They charge $4K for IVF. I love Dr Donovan. If you email him with questions, he will email you back within few days. I emailed him few times and got full responses.

I hope it works for you!!!

4k for traditional IVF? Not a Micro-IVF? Thats just way to cheap, it seems fishy! Micro cycles here are 4490 and meds are around $200 they said. Whereas the cheapest traditional IVF I have found is $8900 and meds would be $2-3k.

When I had a consult with the SIRM clinic here, we asked about doing a micro-IVF. At the time I was just under the age cut-off so he wasn't sure if we would qualify. I asked about success rates and he said although they had only been doing it less than a year they were getting very good results. I think it is worth looking into. SIRM also has message boards on their site, so you could take a look and see if anyone who did it had posted anything.

it does seem fishy but actually I know one of the JM members who used him. Greenchild and she seemed very happy with him and had a son from their IVF. It was one of the places we were looking at for donor egg ivf because it was so much cheaper.
