Hi all - new here and grateful for all that I have learned already from everyone!

TTC #2 (MA is new for us so I have 1001 questions, DS 2.5 yrs conceived naturally) - plan to start 1st IVF cycle in Feb. Plan is to start Lupron on day 21 of Jan cycle in prep for IVF in Feb. Question is - as I know many of us probably wish, I would love to believe a miracle could happen and we might do this on our own this month (got pg Jan '10, m/c in Feb, trying ever since). However, been reading Lupron should not be taken while pg so does that mean we should not be trying on our own if we are starting those meds this month?

Thanks for any feedback!

I'm not sure how that works, because my re had me on bc for a couple weeks before starting the Lupron. What is your med protocol going to be??

I did a lurpon CD 21 start as well since my body does not respond to BCP's, I was told I had to abstain from sex the cycle before IVF.

Hope that helps!

I was on BCP while taking Lupron, so I'm not sure!

Welcome, I'm relatively new to MA as well!

I haven't tried IVF yet, but I have a good friend who was also told to abstain the cycle before IVF, so it sounds like you maybe shouldn't try on your own.

I definitely seem to have more questions than answers at this stage - so greatly appreciate your responses.

In my original consult based on my age (just turned 40) my RE said I would go on BCP to "shut everything down" before starting IVF process. (I had previously been seeing another RE w/whom I did all the initial testing - no explanation other than my age and DH varicocele - but decided to seek 2nd opinion w/this RE). He then did an u/s and seemed somewhat surprised at the # of eggs he could see (said it was unusual to see for my age?) - then when we met after he said based on that exam he wanted to change the protocol, skip the BCP (said it wasn't necessary) and start the Lupron on day 21. No mention of abstaining but that could certainly be just the lack of details I've received so far since I'm new to process & this practice ...

Thought I had come to peace with this decision to proceed but still second-guessing! Proceed w/IVF now due to our age (both just turned 40 + DH just had varicocele surgery in Dec so his SA isn't great but despite this we've managed to conceive 2x before) or just give it more time (trying 9 mos), continue w/acupuncture & herbs and hope for the best ...
