I'm so confused on what to do. My DH goes for his SA on Thursday at 7am. We haven't DTD since Saturday night. So should we dtd tonight or abstain until his test? The directions say abstain 2 to 5 days but I'm still not too sure what to do!

I'm so glad I called the RE this morning. They said it is fine and to go ahead and do the SA. I tol her we haven't DTD since early Sunday morning and that he is going at 6:30 tomorrow morning and she said that is perfectly fine! Yay I am so relieved!

If it were me, I'd DTD tonight, and then he'd have 36 hours between ejaculations. Old sperm are usually less healthy and motile, so I think that would be your best bet. Good luck!

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Thank you so much for the advice, I think I really needed to hear what someone else thought.

Just some food for thought...my DH had a SA done where we abstained 3 days prior to the test; the results came back high. Then, about 2 months later, he had another SA done where we only abstained 36 hours prior and his results came back alarmingly low. We redid the test at 3 days prior and it was high again. It made a MUCH bigger difference than we thought it would.

That said, everyone is different and 36 hours might be ok for you. If you decide to do the 36 hours and it comes back low, I would request an additional test. JMO.

03/10/10: tests with new OB - everything totally normal for DH and I, no indication of pcos; officially diagnosed with "Unexplained Infertility"

08/13/11 - 08/20/11: positive blood test (186), but cramping and bleeding. 2 days later, blood at 275; 2 days later, blood at 21. Inevitable miscarriage.

So do you think we should just abstain until after the SA? We haven't dtd since Sat night. I wish I thought of this earlier and could have talked to the nurse at the RE office. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

I think if it's easy to get a test redone if it comes back low, I would go for it. Otherwise, I would probably wait. Good luck!

I know this is too late but hoping you dtd, 5 days is a bit too long to wait for a proper SA because a lot of the sperm will be dead and less motile after that period of time...3 days may be fine, 36 hours may be fine, but 5 days is a bit too long, we dealt with male factor infertility for nearly 3 years so I've learned a lot about the spermies
