ana - wouldnt the HSG have picked up any of those things? Why would a doc do both? Does an HSG miss things that the hydrosonogram detects?

i brought this up to my doc and he said that the HSG would have shown abnormality

also,d oes it hurt?

That's a good question, but I think the answer is that you see the uterus in greater detail and closer up with the hydrosonogram. I remember looking at the images from the HSG and its was kind of a dumpy little picture of a tiny uterus and the tubes etc. This is a full on close up ultrasound picture. I know for me, my doc saw polyps with the hydrosonogram that would never have been seen in a million years with the HSG. I hope that helps.

I know my RE doesn't even suggest doing HSG's anymore. He feels they are the least useful tool, when hydro or hysteroscopy are much more informational. The HSG can also miss alot, or even misdiagnose Hydrosalpinx.

He also said that while the dye is forcing the tubes open during HSG, they can just as easily constrict and close up in 24 hours, leading you to think your tubes are open when they actually aren't. He doesn't recommend HSG's anymore (This was Dr Sher of SIRM)

oh great! that freaks me out about the HSG; i had gone to one fertility doc that i absolutely could not stand when i was first starting this stuff; he wanted to do both, as i had a myomectomy done 2 years ago to remove 5 fibroids and and thought there might be one or 2 left in the uterus; he said that if there are any in the uterus, it acts like an IUD, the body thinks of it like that, and therefore, implantation will not occur, or, might not

i have already asked my doc and i do trust him, as we are going to a reputable place in NYC, but, i dont know
