Hi all! I was hoping to get a little insight from all of you. But first a little bit about me. Dh and I have been TTCing for 5 years. We starting seeking medical treatment again and my Dr put me on Metformin to start. I have been on it for 44 days at 1500mg. I recently had to taken Provera to jump start AF. I got AF a day later after stopping and have had it for 5 days now. This AF has been different than any other AF I've ever had and I'm wondering if it had to do with Metformin or maybe Provera. Have any of you had similar experiences?

Different things happening during this AF are:

1. Very light AF compared to normal. I only go through 1 pad a day and it's definitely not full just dirty.
2. Have very stretchy CM but red in color of course
3. Dull cramping, normally I either have super terrible cramps or none at all so this is new.
4. Itchy skin
5. More acne, normally during AF a 1 or 2 but after starting the new med I got tons it looked like I was a teenager again, then when AF came it got even worse.
6. A nauseous feeling several times a day.
7. A feeling that my stomach is being squeezed.

Welcome to the board, April! I'm Melissa, one of the co-hosts of the board, and I'm glad you found us. Hopefully we can be here to support you on your journey...sometimes it really helps to have people who have been there.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help on this one...I have not been on Met or Provera before. We have lots of ladies who have experience with these drugs, though, so I'm sure one of them will jump in and help you out!

April,
I think that what is happening is called a withdrawal bleed. They use the term "period" to describe what the Provera does but it's not really the same. The Provera causes your body to build up the lining a bit and then shed it. It's not the same as a regular period, because you didn't ovulate. I myself had very heavy bleeding on Provera, but that is because I had a lot of lining built up, before I started taking it.
The nausea you are feeling could be from the Metformin. Have you adjusted your diet while on the Metformin? I found that eating too many simple carbs would hurt my digestive tract.

My periods were always different when provera induced, because it was usually after almost 90 days as well. A lot of the symptoms you described were related to the met, at least for me.

When on the met, you have to watch your carb consumption. It took about 2 months for me to truly adjust to the met, and it was 2 cycles in before my cycles started to regulate on the met.

You'll notice a lot of hormonal differences caused in your body between the met and provera, as both adjust your hormones in different ways.

So for those that have taken the Met and Provera, have you found that you ovulated after even though it wasn't a "true" period? I really believe that I'm not ovulating and am curious if the Met will help jump start the system to do what its supposed to do.

I started ovulating with just the met alone after 2 months on the met, and one full induced provera bleed. I was still dealing with LPD though, as my LP was only 7 or 8 days those first cycles without clomid. It took me a lot longer to get a decent LP without the clomid, and even now I still have issues with it and I am off met.
