I'm going on my fourth round of clomid. First one was 50mg and others were 100mg. How many rounds of clomid do most RE's allow you to do? My RE didn't mention increasing dosage. I have to schedule an appointment after this cycle with her to discuss next plan. I'm praying fourth time is the charm!

Most doctors will do 6 cycles of Clomid. Are you being monitored during your Clomid cycles?

My RE mentioned doing 3 rounds of Clomid before moving onto "something else". Don't know what that "something else" is yet since I just finished my first round.

"Something Else" could be adding IUI, or it could be switching to another drug, like Femara.

I was only monitored when I did the clomid challenge cycle. My RE wanted to do clomid w/IUI but my DH wasn't on board. Hes worried about the % of multiples. Is femera stronger than clomid?

Someone might have to jump in and correct me here...I think Femara is not necessarily stronger than Clomid, it just works differently and usually has fewer side effects.

I asked about the monitoring for this reason...if you were monitored during the cycles, you would know how many follicles you have, and also if the Clomid was causing any other side effects, like cysts or a thin uterine lining.

I was on 50mg of Clomid and always had one or two good follies. We weren't too worried about multiples...with only 1 or 2 follies, the chances just aren't that great. The bummer, though is that with the Clomid, my uterine lining was really, really thin. So thin that it was really hurting my chances of pregnancy.

Do you think your doc would do a monitored cycle to check things out?

I only did two cycles of clomid/iui last time before moving on to injectables. I would also suggest monitoring. I know my RE won't do any medication rounds without monitoring because of the potential to be working against yourself (thin lining ect..)
Adding IUI to the clomid shouldn't necessarily up your chances of multiples, it just makes it easier for his guys to get where they are suppose to be,

I have read there are limits, my RE's office does not recommend more that 4 cycles with Clomid, but I know some will do 6.

I wound up doing only 2 cycles of clomid (50mg and then 100mg) and then moved on to 2 cycles w/injectables -- 4 IUI's with 4 BFN's -- then went on to IVF...

I was only allowed two as I had servere side effects. However, we've done 5 Femara rounds after prior to Follistim.!

I think my RE stuck to between 4 and 6.

I had to stop after my third cycle because I had horrible s/e-and serious ones too-such as vision changes. Once you have vision changes, you cannot go back on Clomid because they could be permanent.

It all depends on the RE, your age and how you respond. I only did one round of clomid because it caused huge cysts and no ovulation. It basically just worsened my PCOS. We tried Femara + trigger shot afterwards and I responded with one great follie and got pregnant that cycle. Being monitored will give you that peace of mind in that you won't have a "litter" which is what your DH is worried about. If you produce too many follies (enough to concern your dr.) your RE would likely cancel the cycle. Good luck

I am on cycle 2 of clomid 50mg. If I don't get a bfp this cycle, we move on to 100mg for the next 2 cycles. My dr will do up to 6, but he said that he usually sees success within 3. I didn't O last month but came really close (progesterone was at a 12.5, he wants it 15 or better). We have our fingers crossed that I will at least O this month, or even better O and conceive

My OB put me on it for 7 months and then I asked for a referral to the fertility clinic. My doctor at the clinic was quite concerned that I was on it for so long. He said he recommends 3 cycles at a time with 2 month breaks in between so that you don't have lining issues.
