I had an embryo transfer on 3/16/11 and had a negative quant pregnancy test on 3/25/11. My dr told me to go ahead and stop my meds. I started bleeding lightly today. Is that normal? Is it from where I just stopped the meds or is it possible that test was falsely negative? I know I am probably just getting my hopes up but I had all the symptoms that it worked!! I was shocked to get a negative test. I had the "implantation cramps" and all. Hope somebody has an answer!!

Did you do a 3 or 5-day transfer? Did you get an actual number for your beta? Have you taken a home test?

5 day transfer. It said less than 5. I haven't taken a home test.

I think this sounds normal. Once you stopped your meds, if you weren't pregnant, your progesterone would have fallen, which kicks the bleeding into action.

The reason I'd still take a home test, though, is that IVF is associated with delayed implantation, especially when you transfer multiple embryos. My beta was only 11.8 9 days past my 5 day transfer, and I was also told to stop my meds because the IVF failed. In my case, my doctor was wrong, and I have a 9 month old who is trying to help me type this post

Good luck...and keep us posted!

I pray that is what happened. I was wondering if there was a chance of late implantation. I know the odds are low but I can't seem to make myself believe it didn't work. I do have another question though, what if I didn't have periods before, even with the provera stimulation? Is it still as likely that it is just the progesterone? Thank you so much for answering questions for me and offering some hope. Kiss that precious baby of yours for me!

Well, with IVF, you for sure ovulated...so I would think you would have a cycle afterwards. I could be wrong, but it seems logical.

There are other reasons for bleeding after IVF, though. Your body has been thru a lot, and it could be a cyst rupturing or something. I bled a few times after IVF and always feared the worst. I don't want to give you false hope, but I also want to let you know that doctors don't always get it right.

(((HUGS))) I hope you find some answers soon so you don't have to be in limbo. We have a wonderful group of ladies on this board who support each other through the infertility roller coaster...please stick around regardless of what happens with this cycle.
