Hi everybody. I've been an off-and-on member of Trying to Conceive After Loss, and before that, TTC#1 and TTC. It's always hard to learn a whole new group and get into the swing of things, but I figure it's time I try now that I'm in this next cycle of my reproductive journey.

My history in a nutshell: Started TTC in Jan. 2009, got a BFP in March 2010, carried to term and birthed a sweet little boy who would become an angel five days later, got pregnant again 7 months later, miscarried at about the 6-week mark, tried for a few more months, got a period that lasted 5 weeks, and decided I was done waiting on my stupid body to get its act together.

So about a week ago I called a medical office that has two docs who specialize in fertility. I'm not sure if you'd call my doc an RE or an FS, I'm not caught up in the titles at this point. So in a moment of sheer amazement, when I called to make the appointment, I was able to get in two days later. What the...?!? Wait times around here can be MONTHS! Anywho. My first visit I got a pap and had some blood drawn. We made a follow-up appointment FOR THE NEXT DAY!!!, and they did an ultrasound. We sat down with all the results after the u/s and figured out a plan. My bloodwork and u/s showed that I was in a neutral point in my cycle, so we started Clomid right away to try and normalize my cycle and encourage ovulation. My left ovary is a champion, but my right one is abnormal (cystic). My FSH is also "a little" elevated he said, but followed that with it's nothing to worry about, especially since we don't know exactly when in my cycle I was, just that I was pre-O. He says that achieving pregnancy should not be difficult for me considering my test results and my history. I DO have irregular cycles (25-60 days), but I do also ovulate on my own every time.

So my left ovary had five follicles, one of them being more developed than the others. The big one was 8.4mm and the others ranged I think from 5 or 6.x down to 2.x. I just finished my five days on 100mg Clomid and will be starting 2mg Estradiol today. I go back in on the 12th for them to check up on my ovary and see what's going on.

Does anyone know if it's likely the other follicles will catch up with a 2-3mm difference (or more) from the biggest one? What kinds of chances do I have with 5 follies in that size range do you think? I should have asked more questions, I was just kind of in shock from this happening so quickly. I wasn't expecting any of this to be so easy considering how difficult everything has been to this point.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Hey, Erin! I'm glad you decided to join us over here, though I'm sorry that you have had a long a difficult journey that brought you to us. I'm so excited that you found a doctor who will be aggressive and help you get a BFP...what a blessing!

It is hard to say what your follicles will do after the Clomid and Estrogen...sometimes the body tries to grow all of them at the same time, but usually one or two will jump out ahead and grow faster. It is great that your doctor is monitoring you to see how things are developing, because that will help them tailor a plan that is perfect for you.

Are you going to do and IUI, or just timed intercourse? Did he mention a trigger shot?

Hello and welcome! I'm Jenn.

You have really been through a lot and I am so sorry for your losses. My heart really aches for you.

It sounds like you have a very proactive doctor now and I hope that they will be able to get everything figured out quickly.

I don't have much advice for you. In my experience, I would say that the follies that are measuring 5 or 6 could catch up. I would think that you wouldn't want to have too many mature follicles though if you are doing timed BDing. The risk of getting pregnant with multiples could be pretty high if you had 5 mature follicles.

The ladies on this board are really great and someone else might have some more advice for you. I hope that your stay here is short and sweet.

Yes, timed BDing, no trigger or IUI. I agree that I don't want 5 follies. I think if it were more than 3 I would probably abandon the cycle and try again next time on 50mg. I've already had one NICU baby -- the idea of having another two OR MORE is NOT appealing to me. I would love twins, and I would do everything in my power to keep them healthy during pregnancy, but I don't plan on trying for multiples.

Hi! and Welcome!!! I am so sorry about your losses. You have definitely traveled a long road in a relatively short amount of time. I'm gonna let the other girls answer your Clomid questions as I don't know the answers because Clomid didn't work for me.

Hi Erin,
Welcome to the board! It's really hard to say when they are that size. I had an ultrasound where I was told I had 7 follicles that size, but a few days later was mysteriously down to only 1 that really grew big enough. The others just kind of collapsed or disapeared. This stuff is so crazy complicated. Keep us posted how things go!

All my cycles on clomid I had multiple follies. However, there was always one that was primary. After several ultra sounds the primary follie would grow and the smaller ones would not and disappear. Natually we are only suppose to ovulate one egg from one side. If you have many follies but one primary then you will only ovulate one. If you have multiple follies and two are big and the same size then you would O two eggs.
Now that is what I was told by my RE. I also know that multiples on clomid is low. Injectables your chances are much higher of multiples.

Good luck!
