I called a recommended acupuncture doctor yesterday and told her that I'm starting an IVF cycle in January. She told me that I need to start acupuncture asap! I have an appointment for Thursday, Dec 15th at 1pm. That's my initial consultation and we'll design a plan to meet my needs. She said I definitely will need to come the day before and after my transfer.

I called my insurance company to see if I'm covered. I asked my RE to write me a note of medical necessity, so I'm waiting to see if she'll do that or not. Once the insurance company reviews the letter, they will let me know if I'm covered or not. In January, I can use my Flex Spending money toward it. The doctor said if I'm not covered it's $130 for the first appointment and $90 each appointment after.

My question is...Have any of you done acupuncture and think you had success because of it? I just want to be sure I'm not throwing money in the wind getting my hopes up!

I was doing accupuncture when we conceived DD. I am not doing it now, however, and maybe that's why it's proving so difficult this go 'round???? Good luck! I hope it works for you!

I am a big believer in acupuncture now. I was skeptical at first but decided to try it about 14 months ago for fertility as well as chronic headaches and migraines. I really noticed some significant changes in myself after I started. My headaches and migraines became SO much less frequent and when I did have them they were a lot less severe. In terms of fertility, I started to O a bit earlier (Day 16 rather than Day 19) and I started getting EWCM for the first time in years!

I used it through all of my IVF cycles. While it's impossible to know what my IVF cycles would have been like without acupuncture, I really do think that it was helpful. Plus, after I got over the fact that someone was sticking needles in me, I found my sessions to be super relaxing (which is wonderful when you are in the middle of an IVF cycle).

Jenn...How often did you go?
When I called the doctor told me if I'm doing an IVF cycle in Jan that I needed to get in there right away. She said at my first appointment we'll make up a schedule fit for me. I definitely am supposed to go the day before and after transfer.

Mandy - Before I started IVF, I was going once a week for the first few months and then cut back to once every two weeks (at my acupuncturist's recommendation). Then when I started IVF, I upped my visits to once or twice a week (it was sometimes hard to fit two visits into my schedule each week). I went in the day before each of my transfers and then also went a few hours after each of my transfers.

I know this sounds like a ton of visits. My insurance covered most of the cost so I only paid about $12 per session so that definitely made it easier for me. One piece of advice that my acupuncturist gave me was that it is great if I can see her twice a week during my IVF cycle but I should make sure that it doesn't cause me any stress trying to fit it into my schedule. I thought that was good advice and I tried to follow it. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any other questions!

I am looking into finding an acupuncturist and TCM practitioner, so I'm eager to hear how it goes for you. Best of luck.

I stopped doing all western MA and started doing only acupuncture an herbs after 18 months of ttc and a bunch of MA. I was on a much needed break from the MA and was waiting for new insurance to kick in before we proceeded. I was doing acupuncture once/week and skipping the 2nd week of my LP. Three months after starting I was prego with my twins. DH and I decided to give acupuncture a try again this time around. When I started, I was Oing really late in my cycle and having a 5-7 day LP. Within 3 months I was prego again and am now 12w. I am a HUGE believer in acupuncture. It's amazing what it can do for some fertility issues.

I'm starting to think about this option, too. I'd love to hear how it ends up going for you!
