Well you need to know your Antral Follicle count, your FSH, your AMH to determine how you will respond to stimulation. I'm sure they will do those tests on you.

Also ask what type of protocol he plans to use for stimulation.

Does the clinic have any plans like mine where you pay x amount and you get a fresh cycle, and a FET cycle plus one more fresh for that price?

That's about all I can think of.

Some basic questions are.
What are their hours?

Are they open 7 days a week and holidays? (you just never know what day you'll have to go there depending on your cycle) My first RE had terrible hours and didn't seem to be open on the days I needed like CD3 would be a Sunday and they would just say CD4 was fine. Well is it? My new RE is open 7 days week. In fact, he did a transfer for an IVF case on Christmas day.

Prices - you may want to see if they have a price sheet or can give you estimates on how much stuff cost. Like iui or ivf. I have found I don't like when they are all secretive about this. If they can't give you some prices even if it's not exact It made me feel better. My first RE couldn't answer any questions. He would always say we'd have to talk to someone else about that. Well that someone else you could never get a hold of.

Procedures – does he do his own procedures like HSG, sono, Lapo and IUI or does he have someone else do it? Is it done there or a hospital? This stuff might not matter to you but it does to me. I’d rather have an experienced guy do a hsg on me that has done millions of them than at a hospital with a tech doing it.

This is very useful for me too -- thanks for asking -- for our possible new RE. Ditto on the do-you-do-these-procedures-yourself question.

I would add to ask explicitly about the full gamut of testing available for you and DH that the RE will consider -- and especially why they would not suggest doing others -- before they move into a treatment plan for you. I wish I had asked that the first go-around. With treatment plans, I would ask for their success rates in cases such as your own--another one I wish I'd asked, but didn't--and what the success rates are with different treatment options.

Hope it all goes well.

Most RE clinics have a billing manager or office manager that can help you with insurance/money questions. Some clinics offer discounts if you are paying out of pocket (both of mine do), and they might know of other grants or ways to help pay for treatments.
