Um, I'm in shock. I know it's only CD3, and that not all of them will grow, but.... Wow.
Of those 12, SEVEN are in the 4.x-5.x range.
My RE is having me come back in on CD 11 to see if hopefully a few pull ahead quickly and then maybe we can trigger before too many mature. He said he's trying to avoid me "having a litter" (EXACT QUOTE.)
Should I be scared? I'm terrified right now...

Don't be scared! Lots of follies are good cause all of them wont have eggs or quality eggs. Most will stop growing as a few major ones take over.
Don't be terrified!
I went back to my CD3 ultra sound an I also had atleast 15 follies that where less than 10. So I think this is pretty normal. You're good!

Erin...What is your plan this cycle? Are you IUI or IVF? On CD3 that's a lot! I'm CD3today too. We are doing a fresh IVF cycle. I start on birth control pills tonight. Good luck to you! Can wait to follow your cycle and BFP!

Nope, don't be scared at all. Those are antral follicles, and they are completely normal. I had 16 before my fresh IVF cycle, and I had 15 on Tuesday at my baseline for FET. Definitely not all of those will grow and mature...a few will pull ahead and your body will put its energy into those.
This might be, though, a good time to think about what your limits are. If you have 3 follies, is that okay? 4? Have you and DH made a decision about whether or not you would use selective reduction if you were expecting triplets or more? What are your doctor's policies about these things? These are personal and tough decisions, but it is better to decide now and have time to research rather than have to make a spur of the moment decision.
All that said, I hope that you have a couple of strong, healthy follies when you go back so you can get that sticky BFP!!

Our plan is just Clomid/Estradiol/Trigger/Progesterone with timed BDing. There are no apparent problems with DH's boys (results will come in a week from Monday, but with both family histories, we're fairly convinced our issues are all mine...). This is our 2nd cycle with Clomid and the doc thinks we've got a pretty good shot this time.
That makes me feel better that y'all say these results aren't too crazy. I've been sick to my stomach all morning thinking this might end up being a wasted cycle. After insurance TTCMA costs us ~$200/mo out-of-pocket, which I know isn't bad at all, but I also don't want to just toss two hundy in the trash. I was nervous that we'd get told we have seven freaking mature follies and not to try this cycle.
We have talked about what we think we would do in the event of triplets or more. Who knows if what we said is truly what we'd do if actually placed in the situation, but we did talk it out and, nicely enough, found we're both on the same train.
Last month we had 2 good follies and 2 that "probably wouldn't mature but might," and here I am on CD3, so I don't actually know what to think. I'm just waiting for my follow-up u/s and going from there I s'pose.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm feeling a little better now

at a baseline, that's not bad. My RE won't do a cycle if there are more than 4 follicles measuring at 10 or more, he doesn't count anything below 10 at the CD12 scan.

Sounds like a good start to the cycle Erin! Hopefully you have just a few that pull ahead...I'd have been worried too with 12, but it's helpful to know now that's not unusual. Good look - i can't wait to see your BFP!

I agree, don't be scared at the number of follies at this point. At CD3 I always have about 20 antral follies, usually more, but the lead one will take over and the others will stop growing (unless you're on meds that cause them all to keep growing). Good luck!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that I get more than one, since I had two last month and it was a bust. I'm thinking I should at LEAST get one from each ovary. Looking forward to seeing the RE on CD11 and knowing how things are progressing

My RE measures all the follies over 10 and then he'll say "5 less than 10" or whatever it is. So he never seems to care about the ones less than 10. Even after I ovulated yesterday and they did my ultrasound. There were still some there on both ovaries that where less than 10. Maybe those are the ones that gear up for next cycle?
