Little Background: I was on the Depo shot for 4 yrs, DH and I started TTC December 2010. Issue is I am still not ovulating regularly on my own. I have had BW done and all hormones look normal. The dr prescribed prometrium for me the begining of last month to induce a cycle, which I had 12/05. I went back in right before Christmas for more BW to see if I O'd on my own, and that came back negative.

I spoke to the nurse yesterday and the dr is offering to prescribe Metformin or Clomid, my choice. My problem is that I am not sure which to choose. I have done research and I am lost and confused. From what I can find Metformin is more for women who have PCOS (which I do not) or to help with insulin issues for women. I have netiher issue.

What are your opinions on Metform or Clomid??? Pros and Cons???? Any advice would help.
Thanks

You are correct, metformin is usually used on women with PCOS who have IR issues(like me), most often in conjunction with clomid or another ovulation inducer. I'd go for the clomid, but make sure you are getting monitoring done too. Have they done CD3 bloodwork on you? I'd also request a baseline ultrasound ebfore starting clomid, as it can make cysts even worse.

CD3 bloodwork is usually a baseline indicator. I think my RE draws LH, Estrogen, and FSH for the CD3 bloodwork. It gives you an idea of where you are starting the cycle, if you have cysts, etc.

I dont think they have done that yet. We have mainly been working on the fact that I am not ovulating on my own and trying to fix that.

I would think Clomid, although I have no first hand experience with it. I've been ovulating with metformin, but I have PCOS. Not sure why they would prescribe met if you don't have PCOS?
