I know this board is for MA but after 5 years of no success my husband and I are starting the process of adoption We live in Denver, CO and have found a wonderful agency after getting a referral from our fertility specialist. The agency checks out with the Colorado Dept of Human Services so we are happy! We have our first meeting with the director on Jan 26

Has anyone else done adoption or looked into it? What can we expect? We already understand the waiting game.. TTC has taught us that We are wanting an child from birth to 12 months and this agency places more than 15 babies a month with families which is a huge number in my opinion considering most want an infant.

In the mean time we will just continue with our NTNP method of BD

I am pregnant via IVF and still lurk on this forum.

We did start to peruse adoption before making the decision to give IVF a shot. The beginning process can be a bit overwhelming. You will have to do a home study where a social worker (or agency person) comes into your home and asks a bunch of questions as well as looking around just kind of checking out the house. It will include background checks as well as finger printing. It can be an anxious time but usually a positive experience in the long run. The agency may require an informational class during this time. You will also have to work on a "dear birth parent" letter that will include info about both of you, where you live and your relationship. This will include pictures so take pictures now where every you go to show aspect of your life. One thing we were told during our process is that if you are open to babies of different races it can make the process go a little faster.

Good luck with your meeting! I am sure it will be great! One thing we were told is being childless sometimes the wait is shorter because birth moms like the idea that they are "making" or "creating" a family.

We are in the adoption process too. Can I ask the name of your agency? We are signed on with two different agencies and looking into a third.

We started the homestudy process late last May and by September our homestudy was done. It was a lot of paperwork but not as much I thought, honestly. Good luck, and feel free to ask or PM me any questions!

Our plan is one more medicated iui cycle then we need to make the decision IVF/adoption.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. We have good friends who found their dream of a child through a social service-based adoption. Their son is the delight of their lives. It was a tough journey with many ups and downs before they brought home their beautiful baby boy, but I think they would say they'd go through the pain and trouble ten times over for such happiness. We have opted to the Foster Adopt route for our adoption The amount it would take to do it with a birth mother would be about the same cost as another IVF cycle. So we are saving $20,000 doing this way and still have the possibility of an infant. The wait will be longer but after 6 years of TTC and 4 of those being with an RE... we are prepared
