My Dr. just emailed me with the results and said it pretty much matches my FSH levels that came out to 18. Treatments she said is still worth a try.

Knowing those numbers, is Clomid aggressive enough to get me pregnant fast or do I go straight for injections. According to my Dr. there's a 2% difference in success between the two options. Injections being 2% more successful.

Period is due next week and I have to do an ultrasound on CD1 if I'd like to start treatments this cycle. At that time I will ask my Dr. to do a follice count, but I don't know how much good that will do being the AMH & FSH are both not very good.

Any advice?

I would def do injections I would be as agressive as possible because if you find out that an IUI or IVF is better then you have already bypassed Clomid.. which is a pain in the butt on its own. I did not really ovulate very well with it and moved onto CLOMID and trigger shot. IF we are not succesful before my period in OCTOBER then we are moving on to IUI with injections and trigger

GOOD LUCK!

I am def. not an expert with low AMH, but I think with your test results I'd be as aggressive as you can afford to be.

I'm sorry that you didn't get better news

With that low of AMH, I'd be highly aggressive.

With that said, please get a second opinion and make sure you research the heck out of low AMH. You don't want to use the wrong protocol or have a doctor unsure about how to deal with is, when you are looking at a limited time left to be able to TTC. I know Lash has mentioned this before, but she has some resources she's given you and more on her blog as well.

good luck

That's what I thought you'd all say (injections). My doctor had too mentioned that with my problem she wouldn't want to waste time or money trying Clomid if it wasn't strong enough.

I guess injections it is then.

@Anellie: We have decided to do injections with IUI. I know it won't be as fun as conceiving the natural way, but we're hoping to close this deal with one cycle treatment. Good luck to you also ;-)

Good luck with the injections. I tried them for three cycles. Didn't have success BUT know lots of people that have had even on their first attempt. We are now moving on to IVF. Praying for you to succeed first attempt with injections!!!

I was thinking of postponing getting pregnant because treatments and the process with my low deductible kaiser plan is so costly compared to having a high kaiser plan. Significant difference in cost. The problem is open enrollment for me to change plans isn't until November, then the new plan isn't effective until January 1st.

I emailed my doctor and was replied to from an NP (my dr is on vacay). I asked if waiting 5 months to start this process will decrease my chances more of conceiving even with drugs.

Here's the reply from the NP:

"Dr. Telles is on vacation today. Because you are 38 and your FSH was elevated, it would not be recommended not to delay treatment. We could decrease the cost of your medications by using a combination of clomid with the injectible medications if you want. However, we completely understand the economic burden that fertility treatment can cause and if you need to wait till January that is fine. This is elective treatment and completely up to you as to when you decide to start."

Is it worth it to do the combo Clomid with injections?

I'm all about what's going to get me pregnant faster to avoid wasting time and money with unsuccessful tries.

HELP! My period started today and I know I was supposed to have my baseline ultrasound today, but I didn't get the reply until 4:30pm and I'm sure the office is now closed.

My issues do not stem from high FSH/low AMH, so I am by no means an expert in this area.

From what I understand, though, with an AMH as low as yours, every day/week/month can make a difference. Also from what I understand, using Clomid with high FSH could be counter-productive. It worries me that your doc is even offering to try Clomid...have you looked into another RE who specializes in DOR/low egg quality?

Only you and DH know your financial situation and how much wiggle room you have, but I would be as aggressive as you can as soon as you can.

Ditto this. Clomid is contraindicated with high FSH, and with low AMH you are pretty much on a time clock. I'd really get a consult with an RE that specializes in AMH issues before you make any definite plans.

It really concerns me as well that they are even suggesting clomid as an option. I understand attempting to compromise due to cost, but medically it can cause very negative side effects for your situation.

I know you feel like this is urgent and it really is, but proceeding with a bad doctor can have even more severe side effects than waiting a month and finding a much better doctor

Thanks KMH & JenJen! I did some extensive research on combo clomid with injectables and I think I'm against the clomid approach all together. I've heard way more unsuccessful stories using clomid than successful stories...even with combo.

I'm gonna go for the more aggressive approach which is the straight injections. I found out that each gonadotropin vial will cost me $90 with my low plan insurance. If I had the high plan, it'd only cost $20 for brand name and $10 for generic. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!

I'd like to move forward though and get to making this baby.

I haven't checked into another RE. Kaiser is my only option right now as far as keeping costs down as much as I can.

I will keep everyone posted. I'm so thankful that I found this website. Everyone is so helpful and supportive <3

I agree with the other ladies, be as aggressive as you can afford to be. I would probably do one as soon as you can, and if it doesn't work just skip a cycle if you can't afford to do it every cycle.

I just wanted to say that I got the same AMH score as you. I have decided to not stress out about it. I had a long chat with my doctor and he said it is such a new test that the results get misinterpreted all the time. He was, of course, more interested in the general picture (my age, number of previous kids, weight & fitness, progesterone and FSH) and our course of action is based on all the above.
I know there are many factors against me already so I am trying not to add stressing over TTC to the list and making it worse for myself.

It's so hard not to stress with all the factors at hand. I'm trying to be as cool as I can.

I have my baseline ultrasound today and have told my doctor that I'd like to start injections this cycle.

Here we go...many prayers and baby dust needed.

I'll keep everyone posted as I go thru this process.

Ok, so I had my baseline U/S today and I asked to have my antral follicle count done too. The Dr. couldn't count my follicles on my right side because I have a cyst on my ovary and on the left I have 2 follicles.

So I have to wait til next month again because I can't begin treatments with a cyst.

UGH! What gives?!

Ugh I hate cysts! I'm sorry if you have to wait until next cycle. Being in limbo sucks. Hopefully nothing comes up between now and next cycle. I've got my FX'd for you.

I agree with the others...having to cancel a cycle because of cysts is SOOO frustrating! Is your doc putting you on BCP to help make sure the cysts go away?
