Started my PIO shots today. Pretty sure the pharmacy didn't send the right needles. That stuff is so thick and it would barely come out of the syringe It was not a fun shot to take. Good news is though now that I'm on the PIO shots I only have a few more days until my transfer. I'm scheduled for the 21st. I stocked up on pregnancy tests today - the first response tests are buy one pack of two and get one pack of two free. Pretty excited about that.

It's probably the right one, they are a PITA to take! Are the needles huge? If so, you've got the right ones

Make sure you don't keep them in the fridge, that makes it much harder to inject

Oh girl!!!! been there, done that. This is what I did or else it's like shooting yourself w peanutbutter! Take a washcloth and wet it and wring it out. put it in a baggie and nuke it 25-30 secs. get your shot ready, take (carefully) the baggie out of microwave and lay on flat surface on a towel, then lay the prog syringe on the baggie and flop half the baggie/washcloth over the syringe for 20-30seconds..it warms it up and it MUCH easier to inject. Then I would wrap the towel around the baggie and put it against the injection site (aka, stuffed it down my pants hahah) to help it disburse. hth!!! I did my shots myself and this made it much easier. Everything crossed for you!!

I found this idea on youtube.

The bottom one is the needle for the regular shots, then they lovingly give you the bigger needle for PIO. It's like you graduate to the next level just for fun!

This was 2011 when I was taking them and I had a few tips that I wrote on my entry just in case I needed to remember. I also was doing BOTH shots and Crinone at the same time just in case

Ditto the other ladies...that stuff is like sludge going into your rear I sat on a heating pad for about 30 minutes after my shots, and that helped with the soreness.

Here's hoping you can soon do those shots while looking at a BFP

Thanks for all the tips! I'm definitely going to try the wet wash cloth and baggie in the microwave trick as well as sitting on a heating pad

gosh I hope those tricks work for you so the shot isn't as bad. Hopefully that transfer on the 21 turns into a BFP and those shots will be worth it.
Now I am scared to death... that is a big needle!

Why does it have to be in Oil? What is the point of that?
Are you going to be doing the Crinone too? I will be. That is also progesterone....
Do you guys know why we need PIO AND Crinone?

I'm not using the Crinone just the PIO - I have to take the PIO until 10 weeks of pregnancy IF I get a BFP So 11 weeks of these shots - YIKES but so worth if I end up with BFP

Are they everyday? You better get your rump used to them..... 11 weeks is a long time ! You'll forget all about those shots once you hold your baby.

I did both because Crinone metabolizes in the blood differently than injectable kind. So you'll get lower readings even though you are getting the boost from the meds. I have a history of significantly lower P2 and when we were getting a blood level of a "6" right after transfer during IVF, I was comfortable and demanded a second route of progesterone support. If they did vaginal swabs to test levels, the readings for Crinone would come back similar to PIO levels

Research shows Crinone is just as effective, if not more so than PIO shots but I wasnt chancing it after all that money and it can't hurt to have more progesterone

I have heard only bad things about these shots!

I'm a needle phobe, so it takes ALOT to psyche myself up for the subcutaneous shots. I don't think I'd be able to do PIO.

I'm gong to request progesterone suppositories after our transfer instead of shots.
