Hey ladies,

I was on google and I read some where that if you are on clomid and using opk that you will get a positive a couple of days after you stop clomid and again when you ovulate. Does anyone have experience with this??
Thanks so much! Y'all are truly a blessing!!

Karen

Clomid and most oral drugs can cause a false positive on OPK's, which is why you should wait at least 3 days before you start using them after taking your last dose.

So... if you are using the digital ones that say to test starting at cd5, you should actually wait until a couple of days after you stop the clomid?

yes. and I highly discourage the use of the digitals until you have used a traditional OPK to ensure that you won't get a false positive and waste the digi

Are you in a monitored cycle.? My doctor never recommends using OPK on monitored cycle because it may mess up things.

@jen- crap. Crap. Double crap. Thank you for telling me before I completely messed this month up. Traditional opk scare me :/ oh well... here we go.

@ danny- They aren't monitoring me this cycle. I needed to take a deep breath to get ready for everything else to come. I have 3 un-monitored cycles of clomid & metformin and then we start making a plan for what's next.

I've never had a false positive, but I have had them get fairly dark the few days after stopping Clomid and then lighten up again. I'm a POAS addict when it comes to OPKs so I would still take them before CD12 even though they say you aren't supposed to. Are you temping as well? My advice is to keep using OPKs and checking fertile signs until you get crosshairs so you know it's the real deal. Even if you aren't on Clomid it's possible to have something known as a double peak, where you have an LH surge but you fail to ovulate, so you have another one later in your cycle. For this reason I think it's best to confirm ovulation through temping or ultrasound or progesterone workup or something instead of relying on OPKS alone.

Its weird that you have 3 unmonitored cycles on Clomid.

All my clomid cycles were monitored so I never used OPKs.

I can't temp. My job makes it impossible . I work 24 hour shifts with no guarantee that I could sleep enough to take my temp. Or that I will even be available to take it.

Both of my sister in laws will be giving birth in the next two months. I didn't want to completely take a break but didn't think I could emotionally handle everything at once. This was the compromise that was given

I am still hopeful. My dh says it must be wonderful to live in a dream land. I say most days

I never had any weird OPKs on Clomid. You're supposed to start around day 10 anyways, not when you're finishing the Clomid up.....

I've gotten very dark OPK's if I test within the 3 days after stopping meds..they didn't go all the way positive, but were very dark, got lighter and then got darker and positive a couple days after when I normally O. Clomid always made me O late and it made me have a long LP (I just got af today, at 16dpo...when I normally get it at 13/14dpo)

Best of luck to you this cycle!
