Hi Ladies...i am FREAKING OUT!!!

I posted this on the IVF thread, but I just wanted to add this post here so that those who you who had any advice, but don’t regularly check the IVF forum could chip in.

So I received my calendar today. I’m on the long Lupron protocol, with no BCP.
I feel completely weird about the start dates of the stims. According to this I’ll be starting Gonal F on CD 9…which seems really late for me.

During my injectable IUI cycles, I was often close to ovulating on my own on CD 9!
I know that with the Lupron they will have full control over the cycle, but I really feel that the nurse made a mistake and skipped an entire week. I feel like I should be starting the stims on CD 1 or 2. (13 or 14 March)

Here’s my calendar:

5 March (CD 20): Lupron (1 vial)
6 March: Lupron (1 vial)
7 March: Lupron (1 vial)
8 March: Lupron (1 vial)
9 March: Lupron (1 vial)
10 March: Lupron (1 vial)
11 March: Lupron (1 vial)
12 March: Lupron (1 vial)
13 March (CD 1): Lupron (1 vial)
14 March: Lupron (1 vial)
15 March: Lupron (1 vial)
16 March: Lupron (1 vial)
17 March: Lupron (1 vial)
18 March: Lupron (1 vial)
19 March: Lupron (1 vial)
20 March: Lupron (1 vial)
21 March (CD 9): Lupron (0.5), Baseline Bloods & Ultrasound, Start Stims (Gonal F 250 iu)
22 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
23 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
24 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
25 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
26 March: Lupron (0.5), Baseline Bloods & Ultrasound, Gonal F 250 iu
27 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
28 March: Lupron (0.5), Baseline Bloods & Ultrasound, Gonal F 250 iu
29 March: Lupron (0.5), Gonal F 250 iu
30 March: Lupron (0.5), Baseline Bloods & Ultrasound, Gonal F 250 iu, POTENTIAL DAY FOR TRIGGER

Egg Retrieval tentatively planned for 2 April.

Of course, the dose, dates etc will be monitored closely and changed as/if needed.

Can anyone please share any thoughts? Suggestions? Concerns?

PS: Sorry this post is so long. I added each day to give a clear visual picture…it helps me see the overview

Breathe It will all be okay...I promise!

Here's what I think your doctor is thinking...if someone else reads this and it sounds wrong or goofy, I won't be offended if you say so. I did the long Lupron as well, but I was also on BCP first.

It doesn't really matter when you start stims. The Lupron will be shutting down your natural production of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone...what makes your follies grow) and LH, so even though you aren't scheduled to start until CD9, it isn't like you'll have follies developing. Your RE probably wants to give the Lupron time to shut everything down and essentially turn your reproductive system off. Then you'll do the baseline to check for cysts and make sure all your hormone levels are within range...then it is off to the races with stims The continued doses of Lupron will keep you from ovulating early.

As you mentioned, your dosages will likely change as your follies grow. My doses (I was on Follistim and Menopur)were almost nothing the last day or two before trigger...they were just growing and needed time.

Good luck...I'm so excited that this will be starting for you soon!!

I was on Gonal-F and they adjusted (lowered) my dose from 225 to 150 for the last 3 days of stimming before they bumped me up to 450 with 2 vials of ovidrel, 36 hours before retrieval. I, like KMH, also was on bcp before lupron. For me, lupron was the worst. At first, I was fine and then I became very irritable, agitated and just didn't feel right. GL and don't worry. I was so worried during my first IVF. And on paper, everything went great for me.

GL and KUP!

Yeah, I hate to agree, but Lupron is pretty awful. I think DH was scared of me because I would snap at him for the silliest things...he spent a lot of time in his workshop during IVF

Thanks for the advice Melissa and Nicholle!

I'm really so nervous about this!

So you both dont feel that starting stims on CD 9 is too late???

Nope, not at all! Lupron, seriously stops your hormones, really stops them. So you won't have to worry about ovulating while on Lupron. Your estrogen levels are quite low while on Lupron, so you won't ovulate.

This is easier said than done, but really try not to worry and stay positive.

Everything is crossed for you!

I don't think CD9 is too late. When you are on Lupron everything is kind of frozen in time, so you can start stims whenever.

LOL, you aren't a drama queen at all. I was scared silly before my IVF cycle! I think it is totally normal, because like you said, you are quite literally putting all your eggs into one very expensive basket

This thread was helpful. I agree too. They have me on Lupron the whole time to keep me from ovulating becuase of using donor egg. RE is also using it to get donor and I on the same exact cycles.

I think everything will be great! I am glad you are breathing now too!

I agree with the other girls...I posted my last protocol on the IVF thread, I saw that one first....but I didn't start stims until CD8. I think your protocol sounds great!! It's okay to be scared, it's all new and SO SO VERY important, you just want to make sure everything is correct, I get it!!!! I agree, the Lupron is EVIL...it gave me headaches every day.

Chiming in - the girls are right, CD9 isn't late especially with Lupron. Lupron shuts down your ovaries and stops production of any female hormones, estrogen, FSH, all the good stuff. I didn't have any side effects from it but I only had one massive dose and didn't have to take it over two weeks.

Good luck!!!
