So I'm thinking of asking my RE for a mild sedative to take before the hsg. Has anyone ever had one before this procedure? I think knowing what it feels like is kinda building anxiety already (and it's not even scheduled yet) I had one for another gynecological procedure, and while I don't remember it really working, I don'remember feeling as stressed.
Any experiences???

I had an HSG a few years back and although I was really stressed about it the procedure itself was not bad at all for me aside from mild cramping.

Maybe ask your Dr. for some Atavan if you really need something. It can be very calming.

Good luck to you!

Thanks. Im not sure what had last time.
I had pretty sharp, piercing pains. I remember crying and my dh sitting crossed legged on the procedure room floor because he was going pass out! Lol. But the RE said if you had a baby it's not as tense and I'm sure he will think I'm being a baby! Haha!

I just had one two weeks ago. It was just briefly uncomfortable, maybe 2 minutes of cramping. It is really quick and after it was done I had no pain or discomfort. It wasnt bad at all. Good luck!

I took the max dose of Ibuprofen before, but it still hurt alot. the good news was that it lasted for a very short time (less than a minute).
I also took 3 xanax before because I was so tressed from reading online about the procedure.

I cramped pretty bad for the rest of the day after the HSG, but pain meds helped.

Good luck!

I was freaked out before I had my HSG because a girlfriend had recently had one & she told me that she was in tears on the table that it hurt that bad.

Maybe I have a higher threshold of pain, but it was uncomfortable and not painful. I got to watch the dye on the screen & the doctor explained everything to me.

Good luck!

I have medical anxiety. My RE gave me one 5 mg of Valium before my HSG otherwise I would not show up. I was uncomfortable but manageable. I made it to be much worse in my head then it actually was. It was over in 5 min max and got the results right away. Seeing the die going through your tubes is pretty interesting too.

As you RE for a little something for the anxiety. Good Luck
