Had my baseline ultrasound on Monday and the cyst from prior cycle is still there in addition to another cyst on the other side. Rest this cycle again and was put on birth control pill for 3 weeks.

I also had my first acupuncture session on Monday. It was a pleasant experience. She is going to work on retoning my blood and kidneys and balance me out. I've been advised to eat all warm foods to warm my uterus, drink raspberry tea thruout the day, eat certain foods to boost fertility, etc...She is going to give me supplements next week. An estimated 3 months, unless I get pregnant by the 3rd month, is the timeline.

I started basal temping this morning for the first time. Maybe that will help pinpoint more when I ovulate. My past IUI's I was beginning to think maybe they were too late or too early and that's why I was getting BFN's.

Anyhow, I hope this extra step in seeking acupuncture helps in me conceiving

Gretchen....it depends on what slight imbalances you have re the warm foods/etc....has your acup ever told you what deficiencies you have?

I have spleen deficiency and blood stasis. The theory behind the warm foods is, that I'm always cold (hands and feet) so blood pulls away from unvital organs to try to warm me up and put heat in my hands and feet, so it pulls blood from my reproductive organs to try to warm up my hands and feet. This particulary happens after eating, because your body concentrates on digestion and hands and feet get colder, but if you are eating/drinking warm things, you leave room for warmth to get to your extremities...if you fix the balance, blood flow will increase all over, including your reproductive organs, which is obviously important when ttc!

Thank you everyone for the good lucks! I've had 2 acup sessions so far. This is my last week being on birth control, so AF should start next week and hopefully I can do another round of injections if the cysts I had are gone.

To answer your questions about the warm foods, here you go. My acup advised med to eat soups, increase my water intake, no cold food or drinks (no salads, ice water, ice cream, etc). Comfort food does not qualify as warm food :-( I also have to eat foods to help boost fertility (broccoli, brussel sprouts, brown rice...the list goes on).

I have a kidney deficiency and liver stagnation according to my acup so she'd really like to work on cleaning out my kidneys and get my blood flowing especially in my uterus. She gave me some Chinese herbal powder to help with my kidneys (like tea, not a pleasant taste and I HAVE to add sugar). She also has me taking Spirulina, Royal Jelly, DHEA, & Fish Oil (no mercury) to help with my high FSH.

I don't physically feel a difference, but I hope this is all working internally to prep my body for a successful conception this coming cycle.

I have wanted to try acup for while but have never taken the time to find someone. I do not think my insurance covers it.... Do you mind me asking what the average session costs? Sounds so amazing and something I really want to do now more than ever.

I have Kaiser insurance and they don't have acup for fertility, so I called around and found that most acup give a discount if you have Kaiser coverage (25% discount). My initial visit was $75 (reg. $95) and every follow up after is $56 (reg. $75).

It does start to add up especially when they incorporate herbal supplements in your treatment plan. A tip of advice...my acup gave me supplements (all that I mentioned earlier) and they cost $20-$35 each. You can imagine how pricey it got in addition to my $56 visit. You can find the same supplements or another brand comparable that is still high quality for less money online. That's what I did to save some money.

Another thing...If anyone can chime into this that has done acup for fertility.

I had my first acup and started birth control pill on the same day and every day since, I've felt nautious. I'm not sure if it's the pill or the acup. Acup is supp to make you more relaxed, which I am after my session, but the nausea it something I didn't expect.

I'm questioning if it's the acup because I've taken this birth control pill before and it never made me nautious. Before I've taken it closer to the evening hours, but this time I started taking it in the afternoons.

Any thoughts?

I did fertility acupuncture for a while (3 months)...it was a lot of herbs (they made their own and I took like 12 a day in pill form), and I got two different diagnoses from the two acupuncturists I saw, so it was a bit confusing for me (and expensive at $80 a pop for weekly sessions for one and $100 a pop for the other - I was being monitored for my progesterone at the time by my RE, and one month it was 17 (good) the next it was 1.0 (bad) so I really dont know what was going on in there)...

this was the book that I got and followed...

The Infertility Cure: The Ancient Chinese Wellness Program for Getting Pregnant and Having Healthy Babies: Randine Lewis: 9780316159210: Amazon.com: Books

it didnt work for me, that being said, it worked for Celry on here (she got her twins and her new baby using an acupuncturist who was trained by Randine Lewis after trying previously for 3 years or so)...Randine Lewis is the acupuncturist who writes about and teaches about fertility based acupuncture and I have heard that to really get the full fertility benefits of it, it is recommended to get someone trained by her...there is a website where you can find someone in your area:

Home | thefertilesoul.com | Infertility Cure Pregnancy through Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine

I didnt use the one trained by her for long (it was just too far to travel) so that may be why I didnt see the benefits, but, there are many success stories...my main problem was cost, at $100/week it was just too much, and I might as well do the RE...which did end up working out for me...

I did acup for 3 months last year with all natural TTC. BFN. I did see slight difference in my AF. I did not take any of the supplements and if you do I would make sure you tell RE.
I am currently doing ACUP again with my IVF. I have been going now for 8 weeks once a week. I will go all the way up till the day before transfer and I may stop after that. Mine was 95.00 first visit and 68.00 each appointment after. It does get expensive but with IVF I wanted to give it my best shot possible. Personally I haven't bought into it really - I can't tell if it's helping or not. I sometimes feel like a nice deep tissue message and spa day would have me more relaxed.

Hmmm...I guess the saying still stands "it depends on your body and everyone's body is different".

I don't want to be too skeptical just yet because I've only gone twice, but I SOOO understand about the cost. I'm a big believer in budgeting and at $56 per week, that's $224 per month that I can use towards something else. It's kind of like chiropractic care. You just don't know when you'll see/feel results, but in the meantime your checkbook is depleting waiting for that WOW moment.

It's a chance that I was willing to take and although my acup projected 3 months, I think I'll do it for 1 month or until after my next cycle which will start next week.

I have to be honest...the "diet" they ask you to incorporate is not hard, but it is hard. I haven't followed it exactly by no means. Below is exactly what she is trying to accomplish and what she would like me to eat more of...happy reading (sorry so this reply is so long).

From my acup:
Below details the Traditional Chinese Medicine customized treatment
plan based on your Kidney Essence Deficiency and liver qi stagnation
root diagnosis:
•Weekly acupuncture sessions are essential to strengthen the Kidney
Essence Deficiency, move the liver stagnation, warm the uterus, increase
ovarian/uterine blood flow to strengthen the body to back to balance to
ensure a health conception, delivery, baby & mom!
•Chinese herbal medicine customized for your diagnosis is very
important to strengthen the body to prepare it for a healthy conception
& pregnancy.
We’ll discuss details of the formula next week.
•Also recommending 4 different formulas based on your 4 menses phases.
•The 1st phase (menstruation) will strengthen the menses, tonify
kidney, prevent liver stagnation and ensure proper shedding of the
uterine lining.
•The 2nd phase (follicular stage/post mense/yin) will tonify kidneys to
strengthen the whole body to ensure a health conception.
•The 3rd phase (ovulatory/yang) will help eggs mature and promote
ovulation. The kidney herbs will enhance the surge of the luteinizing
hormone, which then stimulates ovulation.
•The 4th phase(week prior to mense) focuses on smooth the liver
stagnation and decrease PMS symptoms.
•We discuss supplements such as DHEA, Royal Jelly, Spirulina and
Flaxseed that will improve your FSH and ovarian reserve. I will have of
the supplements for you next week.
•Avoid ALL COLD foods such as salads, ice cream and iced drinks as much
as possible eat more warmer foods & drinks. Eat as much warm
temperature foods as possible.
•Always start the day with a warm glass of water & lemon and probotic.
•Try to eat a warm nourishing warm breakfast such as eggs, oatmeal with
nuts/fruits, or even left over from the night prior.
•Eat warm lunch combo of soup & salad.
•Try nourishing exercise 3 x a week such as yoga & walking in nature.
•Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night and catch up on weekends.
•Cook with the following spices to increase the warmth in the uterus
garlic, ginger, tumeric and cinnamon.
•Hydrate the body with room temperature H20, drink at least 50% of body
weight.
•Remember to eat health snack such as walnuts and fruits between meals.
Eat protein every 3 hours.
•Drink Raspberry tea thru out the day.
•Ensure you eat more red meat the week prior to your cycle beginning.
•Try to incorporate the list of Foods for fertility into your diet.
