So just heard back from the nurse at the RE office - she said my levels were 33 and they like to see over 50. She didn't say it was a bad thing but she sure didn't say congratulations or sound excited by any means - she said just come back Wednesday and see what happens. I don't really understand this whole Beta HCG thing - I mean I know they are suppose to double every 48 hours so if that's the case and I have been getting BFP's since Thursday night it doesn't sound good for them to only be 33 now if they were suppose to be doubling every 48 hours since Thursday - Thoughts?
Once they get going, then yes, they are supposed to double every 48 hours. Your number Wednesday will tell you a LOT.
It may just be that your LO took a while to implant...for my first IVF my 14dpo beta was 11.8 and 48 hours later it was 12.4. Then it jumped up to 96, and it ended up being a healthy pregnancy. Sometimes these little guys/gals just need time to snuggle in. I have my fingers crossed for you!
ditto Melissa...these hpts are also sometimes incredibly sensitive, so if you were picking up a line with a very low # (forget the stats they post online for the min levels, I've gotten BFP with MUCH lower levels based on subsequent betas) 33 may be a perfectly ok # from a doubling perspective. Fingers crossed for you that you have a nice doubling rate for your Wed draw!
Just got an email in my portal from the nurse. I mean from everything I read online 33 really isn't THAT bad - why is she making it sound like it's not good. Or am I just reading too much into her email? See below
As we discussed over the phone, your hCG from this morning is 33.0...we do like to see it above 50 by this point but will continue to monitor your progression and see how you look on Wednesday. Your estrogen and progesterone levels both look great. Dr. Haddad is aware of your results and would like you to continue with your same medications and return to the office on Wednesday to repeat your bloodwork. Thanks for scheduling that appointment with me when we were on the phone today.
As always, please feel free to call or send a note if you have any questions or concerns. I know this wasn't the result that you were hoping to have today, but we'll just take it one day at a time and see what your levels look like on Wednesday.
Are you at HFI in Houston? It totally depends on the nurse you get if so.
One was really sweet and one had terrible bedside manner

Yes I'm am at HFI in Houston. I use to go to the fannin downtown office and loved everyone there and now I go to an office closer to my work. Just for labs...still see the same doctor and there is one nurse at the new office that is not as nice as the rest

Ugh, this really gets me. Do these people think that they are saving us heartbreak by being negative?
Both pregnancies I was either told that my baby was "not viable" or that I was a "threatened miscarriage" and they turned out fine. I wasn't looking for the worst-case scenario...I wanted HOPE. I wanted REASSURANCE. I wanted SUCCESS STORIES. I wanted someone to tell me that I still had a CHANCE.
I'm sorry she wasn't more positive...I hope your number Wednesday will erase all doubt

Your level in my doctor's office would have been considered great Do not lose hope Medical professions I think have to be so cold due to the nature of the jobs/possibility of saying the wrong thing and ruining their careers.. they totally forget that people have feelings I think sometimes...NOT all though
I hope your beta more than doubles on WED Thinking of you
I have a friend that got a bfp on an FRER and her beta was 4! They are super sensitive, so if the doubling is correct, Thursday your beta would have been at 8.25 and FRER's can def pick that up....so it could be totally doubling perfectly and was 33 today. You are definitely not out! I know it's hard...but hang in there until Wednesday.
Did you test tonight...what did it look like?
