We went last Wed. It wasn't anything that I didn't already know...except what the medications are that we'll be using. (BCP, Lupron, Medrol, Doxycycline, PIO)
There was one other couple there. I wanted to be the lady's friend. I thought, "Oh this is good. I'm going to get to know her & we'll exchange phone numbers and we'll be in this together." They lived like 20 mins from us. Well, they actually made me feel like less of a mess & realized quickly that we aren't on the same page. The woman was like a deer in headlights and left as soon as she could (the class was scheduled from 10am-12pm...they left at 11:30). They didn't even stay to sign the consents or go over the financial stuff. Apparently, she didn't realize that there were medications involved (especially shots) and she is a naturalist & doesn't believe in medication. They haven't done any IVF cycles, but I'm not sure how you get to the point of using an egg donor and feeling like there wouldn't be any sort of medications...nor do I know how you haven't looked up anything online to see what it's about. I guess I am not one to judge though since I have all the JM ladies for advice!
Anyway...I think it is a good think to have on the checklist & DH & I had a good day together. I already had my bloodwork (for all the STDs, etc) and DH went today for his. I have to go back on CD3 for baseline bloodwork & on CD5-7 for a saline sono. Then the only thing left is the psychologist appointment, which I hope to be in early May. Hoping (in my timeline anyway) that we'll be cycling in June or July. With using frozen eggs, we can start as soon as we pay & my cycle allows.
Gretchen...I am over the moon for you! I love your POASing! I'm so thrilled for you! I can't wait for your beta to hear your #.
Well that sounds exciting news. I hate to hear that about that other couple. They obviously were not prepared to hear what the did. Maybe they needed DE because of her age or maybe because she thought only the DE would have to do all the meds and not her. There are all kinds of med - let me just tell ya I am all hormoned up!
Thank you for being excited for me. It is starting to sink in today a little. I am still really scared though.... this has to be our baby cause we can't do this again.
Mandy - did they say anything to you regarding an attorney? We didn't get one and now I am freaking out because maybe we should have? I was reading on the 54 forum and they are talking about how they all had attorney's and such.
We are totally anonymous so I don't know if that is why I didn't need one ?

There was nothing said about an attorney. We had to sign a lot of consent forms for everything from using donor eggs to ICSI to IVF, to what happens to embryos if we die, etc. I'm guessing that's our legal paperwork. I think a lot of the girls on the 54 board seem to be finding their own donors or want some kind of "open" relationship with the donor. That's why they are finding their own attorneys.
Did your clinic say anything about a lawyer? With an anonymous donor, I'm sure that she has signed paperwork that she is consenting to someone else using her gametes. My friend at work was a fresh egg donor 6 times. She's out this afternoon, but I'll ask her tomorrow what kind of paperwork she needed to fill out. All 6 of her cycles were anonymous.
yeah you're probably right..... they are finding their own donors and some are even relatives. My clinic has never mentioned we needed one at all. I signed what looked like I was purchasing a neighborhood of houses! lol
Yes - please ask your friend what she signs. Thank you.
My friend did have to sign about as many consent forms as we did. She said there was definitely a form that she signed acknowledging that she has no legal right to any child that may be born from her gamete. Also, she said that she was never notified if a pregnancy or live birth occured with one of her eggs. After the ER, she had to fill out a questionaire that asked about her experience & asked her things like "would you ever allow the child to contact you in the future?" and "would you donate again?" She was never contacted after an ER with any fert report, etc.
I guess since she did multiple cycles for different women, one can surmise that pregnancy & live births did occur. She told me she never even assumed that until I said it to her. She did say that a child could contact her in the future & that she wrote that mainly for medical reasons.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions that you want me to ask her for you. She's been a Godsend for me to hear about the donor's side of things...otherwise, I may have gone insane with all my "what ifs!"
Is she 5' Green eyes, Brown hair and wearing the earrings I got my donor? lol
That is good stuff to know. Thank you. I am going to ask my clinic if she has been notified of the pregnancy. I remember when we picked her as our thrid choice the staff said when she did it last time she was excited and kept calling in wanting to know if it worked. hum? I don't like that now! lol
