I've been on the TTC Your first child board for a while now, and KMH told me I should stop in on this board. I will give you ladies the run down on me. DH and I have been TTC for almost 9 months now.

6 months of Clomid- No success never ovulated
2 months of Clomid- No success never ovulated

I take my BBT and they are all over the charts which suggest I don't ovulate.

Transvaginal Ultrasound- Shows a 27mm cyst on my left ovary and 15mm cyst on my right ovary been there for 3months now.

Blood Test

Cystic Fibrosis- Negative (Yay!)
CBC- Normal
Lipid Panel- Normal
TSH- 1.390 Normal
Prolactin- 10.4 Normal
Rubella- 22 Normal
Chlamydia Trachomatis- Negative
Sex Horm Binding Glob, Serum- 79.1 Normal
FSH- 9 (for my age the doc wants it around 5)
AMH- .49 (for my age the doc wants it around 2)

He wants me to go in next week to do more genetic blood test because my mother went into early menopause, I will be 29 in June.

We then will do another transvaginal ultrasound to check on my cyst, and then start injectable fertility meds once AF arrives.

Sorry you haven't been responding to the clomid. That's such a pain of a medication it really sucks when it's all for naught! Hope your cysts have shrunk by the time you get your next ultrasound.

Hi- A friend of KMH is a friend of mine! Welcome!

I think as long as your FSH is 10 or under you are ok for now. AMH is really pretty high though. There are some AMH experts on here (not me) and hopefully the will chime in.

Will they do injectables still if you have those cysts? My RE wont. Injectables could cause more cysts. I would think he would put you on BCP for a month to try and quite those down before proceeding with injectables.

Sorry all the Clomid didn't work for you. There are other options though...

Welcome I know we're a club no one wants to join, but I'm glad you are here. These ladies will take great care of you

I'm Melissa (31) and DH (33) and I are "unexplained." We flunked 6 IUIs before moving on to IVF, which gave us our 3 kids. I'm one of the many military wives on our board.

A few questions if you don't mind...not being nosey, just wanting to help!

Did you mean that you did 2 cycles of Femara (not Clomid)? Were these cycles monitored with ultrasounds?

Are you seeing an RE or an OB/GYN?

My very first thought is that your FSH is elevated from all that clomid and is probably not an accurate read. The AMH is however fairly true. Have you done an antral follicle count recently?

Do you have a link to your chart?

Was your testing all done on Day 3? If it's not day 3 it's useless for FSH

welcome to the board. Lash is our FSH/AMH expert around here so she might have some advice for you.

I'm another military wife and one of the hosts for the board. I'm Jennifer, DH and I have been TTC #1 for a long long time and are currently on an MA break.

You are most likely experiencing DOR, Diminished Ovarian Reserve but you aren't yet in POF, Premature Ovarian Failure. POF has much lower rates of success and it can't be diagnosed until you've had months of no periods. It is essentially premature menopause. You aren't there yet, but I can't tell you how far away you are either. Some of us get the diagnosis and still have years left before our ovarian reserve completely depletes.

I can tell you how most of us approach this. Once you get a low AMH reading, you sometimes have lots of time and sometimes you don't. Plenty of people don't want to waste time and go straight to IVF. I did. I got my diagnosis in February and was doing IVF in June.

Many of us do not respond well even to high doses of meds. The amount of medications I was on should have produced 25 or more follicles in a regular woman. For me, I got 7 and only 3 made it to the end (and only to day 3).

Plenty of us have to find a doctor that specializes in FSH and AMH to really get the right approach. Don't be shocked if you get the "donor egg speech" soon. It's just part of the game and you'll learn to dismiss it easily.

You are still having periods, at least attempting to ovulate and you are still young. You have tons of positive factors on your side, no matter what google and doctors tell you.

I however want to know they diagnosed PCOS? Usually if you have PCOS your AMH reading is very very high, not low. I'm wondering if you've been misdiagnosed?

I would encourage you to start reading here
New High FSH Support Forum

Who is your RE? I'd be interested in seeing his SART data

I got pregnant naturally and am hoping to do the same or at least do it in a low tech way. I did IVF once, not doing it again. The cost investment isn't enough for us since we don't get frozen embryo's out of it. We'll stay with IUI's and injectables until we just move on to something else one day

1st, welcome to the board!

Lash gave you some excellent advice, and I have to ditto that the clomid (what it does is trick your body to think it's not producing FSH, so your brain loads your system with more, and in return, usually helps mature an egg, two or three) However, the months after this, your body could still have some of that residually high fsh. That being said, anything under 10 is still within normal range.

And while your AMH is low. I have a friend that has the same amh as you and she is currently 16 weeks pregnant with twins. It took trial and error of 3 IVF's to get some good follicles, but it worked. - I am not saying this to scare you into IVF....just saying you have lots of really great options out there to get pregnant.

Don't give up hope. Thanks for joining us...looking fwd to getting to know you better.

Wow thanks ladies for all the tips and advice this is the first board that I'm getting tons of advice on. I love it

And yes sorry I meant 6 cycles of Clomid & 2 cycles of Femara.
When I was taking Clomid & Femara it was prescribed by my OB/GYN he wasn't doing ultrasounds to monitor me we would just do the Day 21 Progesterone to see if I ovulated or not.

Lash: My doctor is Dr. Eric Silverstein @Colorado Fertility Insitute

Lash: I've never been typically diagnosed with PCOS but I thought maybe I do have it because of the 2 cyst i currently have but I know cysts are also normal after ovulating and then AF is supposed to get rid of them. So I guess I don't.

He also is planning on doing other genetic testing on Thursday next week, I can't remember which one because I was so upset after hearing other two results. The husband and I are fine with doing injectable fertility meds & IUI but we don't want to do IVF, I'm still not sure how I feel about IVF it cost tons of money and nothing is ever guarenteed. I think if it came to IVF I would most likely decline and look towards adoption.

No, it sounds like you have estrogenic cysts and not PCOS. I bet he's going to run some Fragile X mutations and other genetic tests which are typical for low AMH

I really don't want to be a downer, just know that adoption isn't a sure thing either. We're living proof. I won't personally invest in doing adoption again and will go towards donor embryo instead

If you have DOR, your chances with IUI are fairly slim but it's still possible. Just know that it may take longer than the typical 1-2 rounds of IUI that you read others having success with on the boards. I'm going to attempt it myself, but I know my chances are lower. You'll hear things as low as 10% chance with DOR to get pregnant. Sometimes that's true but not always. I'm living proof of that too.

Do you know about the day of your testing from your FSH results?

Ok I don't want to panic you but I don't want you to waste time there either. His statistics are really awful and they have little experience working with much there and definitely not with your situation at all. His lab is really bad, and that may not mean much since you aren't doing IVF, but he really isn't the person you want to be wasting time with especially if you have very little time

This statement on his website really alarms me:
The most recently published CDC studies show our rates (live birth/initiated cycle) to be among the highest in the country and have increased in the two subsequent reporting years. Our goal is a well-educated professional and lay community.

His rates are subpar and certainly not even close to what SART considers acceptable. Maybe it was a misprint because his rates are among the lowest in the country, not highest

I looked at that sheet LASH but honestly there's not much I understand, I'm learning that's for sure. Maybe I should check with another Fertility Specialist? IDK

hi & welcome to the gang!!

One question on the injectables - do you know which med he wants to start you on first? I would echo what someone said earlier - I had almost no cysts on Clomid & Femara, but immediately developed several once I started injectables (I did a round on Follistim (successful) and a round on Menopur...so hopefully yours will have shrunk or resolved sufficiently before they start you on either of those meds.

Wishing you the very best of luck - I hope the injectables work for you!!

We're not saying bad things about your doc to scare you; finding the right doc is super important so you don't spend time/money barking up the wrong tree.

Does this doc take Tricare? Tricare will cover injectable meds when you combine them with timed intercourse; when you add IUI to the mix Tricare will no longer cover any part of your cycle Has DH had an SA? If his numbers are okay, it might be worth it to just have sex and have Tricare pay for everything!

KMH, no I understand what you guys are saying. Woud you ladies mind doing research to find a GOOD fertility specialist here, apparently I picked the wrong one

Yeah he takes Tricare, the first injectable he mentioned was Follistim. I hate it, I've already had a hard day and now I feel hopeless.

DO NOT feel hopeless! I will not only tell you who is good in Colorado, but who is good for FSH and AMH across the country. Actually while today feels bad, here are the good things

-You have more knowledge now and this may push you to try a brand new approach because you know how important it is
-You will get better input now about a better doctor from a team of ladies who have done this before you
-You are not doing this alone! We have tips, tricks, info and help!!

For now read this to help you know more about how to look at their data
Jump Over The Rainbow- It Won't Rain Forever!!: How to get SART SMART- Learning how to interpret SART data

That's my blog by the way. It has info about medication protocols, doctors, books to read and you can start from the first post, which is the day I found out I had low AMH and high FSH

I'm a marriage and family therapist btw!
