Hey ladies! I have been MIA, I had to step back and push TTC to the back of my mind for a while. Now I need advice!

Here is a refresher, or for those that are new:
I had my second IUI feb 19th. The dr said the chances of it working were very slim because the count was so low. He said our only options were ivf, sperm donor or adoption at that point. Count was 1.7 mil.

None of those things are an option at this point. IVF is $12000, adoption is 3 times that, (although we do want to do foster/ foster to adopt, even if I get pregnant). And we just arent comfortable with a donor.

I had started my DH on fertilaid, count boost, motility boost, fertile detox, and a b complex around the beginning of feb. So, we are now at about 3 months on them. I am very irregular without drugs, so I am not on cd 55, but can tell AF is coming. Sore bbs, mini streaks of blood, emotional, and tired.

I want to do another medicated cycle with IUI. I am hoping for improvement in the counts from the meds. So, what would you do:

Would you have him do a SA before starting the cycle? Or just go in hoping for the best?

Also, the dr didn't give us an option of "keep doing this and hope it works" Should we consult him before I start my cycle and ask if he is willing, or just go ahead and call on CD 1 just like I would had we not been told that. I am sure he will do it, I just don't know if I should ask, or just assume he will. Did that make sense? Because I am rambling, lol.

thanks for any input!

Our TTC journey: I went off the pill April 10, 2010. I have had irregular cycles ever since. We have tried everything from soy isoflavones, fertili tea, fertil aid for both, sperm count and motility boost for DH, femera, relaxing, giving up...no luck. SA 06/2011-5mil, 05/2012-no live sperm, 07/2012-17mil!! HSG 7/25/12, all clear. Next cycle, Femara 3-7, scan cd 11, 5 follies 17, 12, 12, 11, 10, trigger cd 12, IUI (8/30/12) cd14: BFN, AF showed 9/13/12 -On to cycle 2 with medication and IUI. 9/28 quit groqing, cycle cancelled. 2/6/13 follistim cd 3-12, follies 19, 18, 17, 12, count 1.7 mil, BFN. Skipping this cycle.

I agree! Do the SA and see if the supplements helped! And deal with the RE when you request the SA

Hi there! Welcome back

I hope the supplements did great great things for you two!! I would get the SA beforehand too. I would have a hard time being on the meds and getting so hopeful, just in case it would be bad news.
I can't wait to see the results!

I would definitely have DH get another SA done first. Hope that the supplements helped DH's count improve.

I would have the SA too. I would be way too emotional if the morning of my IUI they told me that the count was not good enough.

Also, my DH had low counts too. He started taking the vitamin L-Carnityne & we saw a drastic improvement. He takes a Men's multivitamin and the L-C now.

hey, thanks for all the replys ladies! I started AF before I had a chance to call and talk things over. So, I called on day 1, and spoke with the nurse. She asked if I was calling to do IVF. I explained that we just couldnt do it financially, so we were hoping to do another IUI and pray it works. She cheerfully said, "Ok, lets get you in for a scan". So, I went today, had cd 3 scan, bw, and started follistim (100) tonight. Last time I was on 75 for the first 4 days and then bumped up, i think to 100 and then 150, but maybe just straight t 150, I don't remember, lol.

Oh, and DH did not have another SA. But, good news is: He had a SA last june that was 17 mil. That was the highst we ever saw, so I got to thinking...3-4 months earlier was when he was on all the supplements that he is on now. He only took them for about 2 months, but that SA was around 3 months later, so MAYBE it helped, and it will help this time?? I know I am putting all my faith into his counts being higher this time and it will be hard if it isnt any better, but it is our only option

My dh has low counts too but they were much lower last year. Our RE referred him to a urologist and he found out he has varicocele, which is very common and can be one of the number 1 reasons for low count/motility. He had the repair surgery last Feb and since then his numbers have doubled. I don't know if your dh has had this possibility mentioned to him but if not, its worth asking about. His last s.a was 48 mil but post wash for our iui was only 7 mil but it is still much better than before. Anyways, we are kind of in the same boat because our RE said we could do 3 more iui's (just had the first one fail) and then we have to consider other options and we have to pay out of pocket for it and we are not financially able to do IVF. Its so depressing. I wish you the very best though and remember miracles do happen
