Hey Ladies..

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!

We have our first RE appointment on Tuesday. My mind is running a million miles a minute. I'm super nervous. What was your first RE appointment like? Do you wait until all testing.is over before they decide on a plan? What did you do to prepare?

Thanks for everything. Y'all rock

I can't remember... I think we sat and talked for a bit and speculated the possible issues. Then set up all the testing and when we would meet again.
I always have a list of questions to annoy... errr... I mean ask the doctor esp for first visits.

We already had an SA done so he had that information. As far as we knew I was fine but yes he did schedule the hsg first. We discussed options and he basically said we could start at any point (we could straight to ivf if we wanted) but bc we thought I was healthy- just dh issues, we said we would start at the beginning and see how things go. I did bring all my charts an he never looked at them. He said they weren't useful to him bc he would control every aspect of my cycle (felt a little silly). Good luck!

We already had DH's SA done and that was sent over to the office as well as my records from the OB office (since they are the one who referred me there). I also failed to mention that they also had DH's original SA results too from when we banked prior to chemo , so we had something to compare the recent SA with. We speculated what the problem could be and also set up the HSG at the same time. Since I was on CD 3 I had like a dozen vials of blood drawn and my first ultrasound of my ovaries done. We then met back up with the doctor in about 2/3 wks to follow up on the blood work and HSG results. It was at that second mtg that we came up with a game plan. I would definitely encourage you to write down your questions as you think of them and don't be afraid to ask them. It is so important that you are your own advocate and have them explain anything and everything that doesn't make sense or sound right to you. I also encourage you to ask from the get go what their prices are for whatever they plan on doing so you don't have to be sticker shocked like I was on this past week.

At my first consult, we talked a lot. My RE's office required us to complete a checklist of tests that they had for us. My DH had a SA prior to us going to the RE, but she wanted another one done in her lab. I had an HSG, CD3 bw, bw for DH & I for STDs and diseases. We also had to take a class about IUI and giving myself injections prior to being able to start cycling. Like the other ladies said...write your questions down and don't be shy about asking anything. You may want to take notes about what the RE is telling you because it's a lot of information right off the bat.

My first appt was a breeze... Compared to the rest (I did IVF). I knew going in that we had to do IVF. I already had an HSG done and DH had SA done. I got copies of my records and took with me to RE. Lucky for me, my OB/GYn is an infertility specialist... He can't do IUI/IVF b/c the hospital he's with now won't let him bring those procedures in, so we went to a fertility clinic. I had a bunch if questions written down, and my RE answered them all. I did my research prior to going in. My first appt was perfectly timed with my AF, so I was able to get all my b/w and u/s done then too. I recommend doing research, writing down your questions, and be prepared for anything! Good luck and don't be nervous!

Good Luck with your appointment tomorrow.

My first RE appointment was not fun. My OBGYN said I had lots of time to have more babies and when I got to my first RE (I fired) he learned my age and it was like I was 80 years old or something. I was 40 at the time. Threw out Donor Egg and all kinds of stuff I never even dreamed of. Gave me a complete meltdown.

Yours is going to go much better than that though. Lots tests and give you lots of options... all forward progress though so don't let anything he tells you get you freaked out.

At my first appointment, the RE had lots of questions for me and DH. She sat with us and answered our questions as well. We talked about what the problem most likely was, and scheduled all of the tests. DH scheduled SA. I had ultrasound of ovaries and blood work that day, also scheduled HSG. After the appointment, a member of the office called me to talk about exactly what my insurance does and does not cover, the preapproval process, etc. After all of the tests were done, we had another appointment and pinned down the plan. We left we prescriptions and started medication on the next cycle.

Good luck!

Good luck tomorrow!
I definitely recommend writing questions down! Im a big crazy and made a case report of myself. I dropped it off at RE office about a week before my appointment. The day of, he asked me questions- and let me know what needed to be checked. Once all results were in we made a plan.
