This is a complicated question, but stay with me here...

After our poor sperm count for our July 1 IUI, the RE wants DH to do another SA (the one he did two years ago was good, but now the RE is worried it has worsened...). Problem is, DH has been sick this week and doesn't want to do it this week, and then this weekend he is out of town, getting back mid-week next week with jet lag. I doubt I'll be able to get him to do it until the following week, July 22.

My AF will come on Monday most likely, so I'll be on CD 8 by the time the 22nd rolls around. Is that too late to start the IUI meds? I don't want to start another IUI cycle until the SA is done (if it comes out poorly, it may not be worth it to do the IUI cycle at all), but if the SA is good, we'll want to do another IUI cycle. It just feels weird to try to start it then when I usually start the meds on CD3.

Any advice here?

they usually want to start meds close to CD3 because they can control things better.

Ditto...unless you are suppressing so your ovaries are shut down I would think CD8 would be too late. Sorry I hope DH's numbers are good when you have the SA done!

Usually CD 5 is the latest they would consider waiting. Some people take Femara 5-9, but 8 is probably later than they will allow

So what happens if you do go to CD8? I mean, with PCOS I don't cycle normally, so what would they do? Waiting for AF could be months and months...

You really need to call your RE to ask them about this. They may suppress you or have you just sit out a cycle and then induce with provera after a few weeks.

Hey Jessica
So with my dh and his screwed up SAs I have learned a bit and I really feel like your DH is most likely fine for IUI. I would bet on him personally. I wouldn't expect his sample to be any good at all after 8 hours and 2 days of BDing- but 3 days abstaining? He's probably fine if he has been in the past and hasn't had any major illness/medications. Is he on supplements by any chance?
I personally wouldn't waste the cycle and I think starting after CD5 would be a waste. And you would most likely have to wait and then do provera if you don't get AF on your own.
This is all just my .02

Lucy, yeah, I tend to think the second SA will turn out fine. I think he's just reluctant to do it on the off chance the it comes out poorly. That, and we've been having trouble finding time to BD, so he's been abstaining for like a week now. I made an appt for his SA tomorrow but think we will cancel because the abstaining should be 2-5 days.

Normally it's not this hard, but he's been having some trouble at work, etc, and I think he just doesn't want to worry about a bad number when he's currently on the books with a good one. Eh, on the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. We will figure it out.

Thanks for the insights and thoughts, ladies. Much appreciated!

When my DH first SA came out poorly, I also had a hard time getting him to take other tests. He just couldn't handle the outcome and was to afraid of more bad news.

You wont want to pay for meds and IUI though with a bad SA so maybe save the money and wait just one cycle.

I know waiting stinks though but you want DH to be "ready" and on the same page. Forcing them never gets good results....
