AF should arrive any day now, and after we plan to get started with our first IUI! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. My husband has a very low sperm count, and our RE feels like IUI will give us a good shot at getting pregnant without spending tons of money (because this is all out of pocket for us). CD5-9 I'll take Clomid (100mg/daily), then go in for an ultrasound CD13,14or 15 to check the size of my follicle(s), he'll tell me when to take my trigger shot, I'll take the shot, then 36 hours later I'll be doing the IUI! Wish me luck.

From what i read and our personal experience most IUI's are medicated and differ from specialist to specialist

This is how my last two were done

Call dr on day 1 of cycle
Day 2 or 3 bloodwork is done
Days 3-7 take clomid pill (I've seen others do injectables but not sure how that works)
Day 12 ultrasound is done to check follicke size at this point your dr decides if you are ready for the trigger shot which makes you ovulate

Once the dr decides when u take your trigger shot u get scheduled to go in for the iui procedure
In my case my hubby provides his sample that morning
The sperm is"washed" which leaves only the best sperm
Then the sperm is but in you which the dr is able to get them as far up as possible

Sorry I'm not being very technical but this is what is done

My dr had me test 14 days after iui since the trigger shot can give a false positive

I'm still waiting for AF to show up! I had to start Provera Saturday b/c of such a long cycle. I guess it'll be any day now that she shows up and I get to get started with IUI#1.

We're paying out of pocket for our IUI too, and it'll cost us around $1,000 (including the medication, sonograms, sperm washing, semen analysis, and the procedure itself). MUCH cheaper than IVF though so we plan to try several rounds!

My IUI cycles with Clomid and a trigger were $614. I think it depends a lot on where you live, how many ultrasounds you have, etc.

Yes you're probably right! It's really hard to compare costs b/c the costs are different based on your location and the office too.

Here's the breakdown of my costs:

Clomid (100mg/5 days): $23
IUI Procedure: $400
HCG Trigger Shot: $109
Ultrasound (I think I'll only need 1): $150
Semen Analysis: $200
Sperm Washing: $100

BTW KMH that pic of your twins is ADORABLE!!!

Yikes, I still can't believe the price of the trigger shot has more than doubled since I last bought one

Aw, thanks...they are 14 months now and little bundles of curious energy

That could also be a location difference? I'm not sure! I bought mine from Freedom Fertility, not sure if there are other places you can get them.

KMH, are your twins from IVF or IUI? I'm sure twins are a lot of work, but I am secretly hoping for twins from our upcoming medicated IUI!

There could be a difference in price depending on where you get it, but $45-65 was standard a few years ago and now I don't see anything under $100. Makes you wonder why it is so expensive for the same drug.

My twins were from our FET cycle. We transferred two embryos and they both stuck!

Thanks ladies! This will be our next plan of action. I am nervous about the price of the sperm donation. Yikes! I looked it up and it's almost the price as the procedure...then maybe I need to make sure my husband and I choose the best sperm out there. lol!
