I'm new to these boards. Had and IUI last month and just got my period today. Three days late! Anyway I will be starting a medicated cycle with the IUI. It won't be clomid but something like it. Starts with a t (tomocycin?). I have a doctor's appointment in the morning but just wanted to know if anyone could give me some info. on how this works. Has anyone had a medicated cycle and an IUI? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

We are so glad that you have joined us!! I haven't had a medicated cycle with the IUI. That will more than likely be my next step though. I would make a list of questions to take to the doctor so that you make sure that you don't forget any of them. I went blank at my first OBGYN appointment when we first started seeking medical help. I want to wish you luck and I am sure that someone else here can answer all of the questions that you have. Keep us posted!!

On medicated cycles they monitor you alot more especially with IUI...depending on the R/E they will monitor follicle growth ( I think they like 30mm but don't remember) and then when they think there is a dominant follicle they usually give you a trigger shot to release the egg and time IUI. But in the begiining they will probably just tell you to test for an LH surge with an ovulation kit and when You get a + to go in for the IUI and follow with natural BD for the next day or so...Best of luck to you - enjoy the crazy moodswings and let DH know well in advance you will be insane for awhile!!! Welcome Aboard - hope your stay is short!

I just went in today for an ultrasound and some blood work. Started the medication today and will go next Tuesday for another ultrasound. Already three times the visits I had to the doctor for the first IUI. I'm glad they monitor so closely because i feel like there's a better chance of conceiving. I have the trigger shot in my fridge, just not sure when I'm going to have to do it. I actually don't have a DH. I have two children from a previous marriage and will be 37 in September. I really wanted a large family, just didn't work out and my clock is ticking so I chose to be a single mother. So the moodswings will drive my two boys crazy!! Thanks for the info.

I applaud you all the more than! Do you get donor sperm from a bank? If you don't mind me asking - where? I'm 39 and would love to have another child (3rd) but 1st for DH...If my eggs are too old I'm thinking of using donor eggs...so any info on finding our more info would be great. and good luck!!!

Thanks, Yes I used donor sperm from Fairfax Cryobank. There are tons of sperm banks to use but this is the one my RE usually uses so I chose them. I actually just order the sperm on line and have it sent to my doctor. My insurance will cover the cost of donor sperm but the doctor's office was having lots of problems trying to get them to pay for it because there is no billing code for it yet. So they asked me to just order it myself and deal with them. I'm also on a board that is for Single Mothers By Choice and there are quite a few women there who have used donor eggs and donor sperm. I don't think at 39 your eggs are too old!
