I talked to my RE today about my IUI options. The meds she prescribed will cost $2300 plus another $1500 for IUI and ultrasound monitoring.
I just don't have that kind of money. My RE said they could do the IUI with clomid and the HCG shot and they would start doing the ultrasounds on CD 12. I told her that I normally don't ovulate until CD 18, even last month on clomid it was the same.
She said that the point of the meds is to shorten the early part of the cycle and since I still Oed on CD18 the clomid probably wouldn't work since it doesn't sound like it did what it was supposed to last month.
Anyone know why ovulating on CD 12 or 18 makes a difference?
Also, I am so sorry for everyone who got their BFN. It sucks. I am sending big hugs and chocolate to all of you! HUGS!
I might have an idea why you didn't O earlier even on Clomid. The same thing happens to me. The last time I took Clomid in Nov, we did a scan on CD 14 & I had 2 mature follicles, ready to release but didn't come out for another 4 days. I think that if your LH level isn't high enough, then your eggs won't pop out. I'm not saying this is the exact reason but this may be why it is a good idea to use a trigger shot. It also doesn't let the mature eggs just sit there when they are ready. That would be the difference. If your ovaries won't release them, make them!
Without the trigger shot, my eggs were getting too mature without releasing, just like Astrid said. The first cycle, one of them never released and turned into a large cyst that stuck around for three months. Since then I have had the trigger shot each cycle and the doctors have found that I was ready to trigger between days 13 and 15, so that helped me to O sooner.
that would probably explain why i get all kinds of ovulation symptoms and then don't get a positive OPK until days later. most of the time i get cramping and EWCM about a week to 3 or 4 days before i get a pos OPK. it would probably also explain why i get a pos OPK for sometimes 3 days in a row!!
i also went back through all my old charts. every time i m/c i had ovulated later in my cycle than my O symptoms. when i conceived DS, i Oed right on day 14 with a lot of EWCM on the same day as my pos OPK. i wonder if my mature eggs are hanging around too long and aren't very good by the time they're finally released.
i actually asked my ob/gyn about this a few years back. she didn't have an answer for me.
thanks so much for the info! my dr's plan finally makes sense!
