I talked to my doc today about infertility testing. I had a m/c almost 4 weeks ago. We had been trying for 2 years and finally got pg with clomid. Anyway the doc ( a different doc than the one who gave the clomid) said to go in on day 3 on my first cycle, and again on day 10 for a clomid challenge test. Everything I've read is that you actually take clomid for the clomid test. He said then he wants to do an HSG and a SA before he'll prescribe clomid. Is this a normal course of action?
Thanks!

Hey! First of all, Sorry to hear about your m/c
Second, My doc checked my progesterone, saw that I wasn't ovulating and perscribed clomid 50 mg days 3-7 right away. He said that after 3-6 months if I wasn't pregnant that we could move on to checking my tubes with an hsg, and then also getting an SA. I guess because after he gave me an fsh and glucose/insulin test he saw that everything looked normal and good so he moved right on to clomid.
Hope this helps!

If you are going to an RE, yes it is normal to do all that before getting a script for Clomid. I also had the same thoughts as you when I met mine BUT then I understood, especially after we got the SA results showing my DH to have 14 million instead of the 20 million that they consider normal. It is good to know what you are up against. Most of the discovery procedures are covered by insurance. The SA wasn't for us & cost $175, I think. Hopefully you will get some answers!

It's not an RE, just the regular Army OB/GYN doc. Tricare will pay for everything testing related. I doubt they'd cover IUI or IVF, not that we'd go that far.
